Medication Question - 'The pill' *safe*

I've been on the pill for a month and a half (microgynon 30) for mood swings and I forgot to take it last night (I usually take it at 5pm) I just took it now (9.06am) will that still be OKay?
Also, I've been told that I should give it a month to kick in and I will notice a big difference, no difference...but then another person said 3 months and it will be a tiny difference?! I understand none of you are doctors but if anyones ever had experiences with mood swings and the pill...I've felt no difference...sorry if this kinda goes into mental health stuff...I'm really confused...sorry.

I've heard of it being used for mood swings, and I've known it to be quite effective.

I'm a bloke, so that's obviosuly only what I've heard.
I would imagine that it differs from person to person though.

well not being a doctor im not sure how much advice im allowed to give so moderators i apologise in advance please edit if im doing wrong

the adv is that if you forget you should take it as soon as you remember and then take the next pill at your normal time at 5pm. refer to the leaflet that you get with the packet, it goes through missed pills and what to do in detail.

used to be on this pill but not for mood swings so can help you with that bit but suspect its probably all pretty subjective-everyone will be different and just depends how long it takes to balance out hormones etc

Your pill wont be working as well as it should be, you have a 12 hour time period if you forget to take your pill as far as i am aware, i cant find the leaflet for mine :p

You need to take your pill correctly for 7 days and use condoms if you are going to have sex.

Thanks, I'm not doing that sprt of stuff yet lol but It's not working for mood swings gahhh! I don't have the 7 day break as well, the doc wanted the pills to be in my system ASAP...:-s

it will actually worsen mood swings for a time as it messes your hormones up, then you should see an improvement. keep an eye on depression though, mine mysteriously returned when taking microgynon and vanished when i came off it.

Microgynon 30 gave me terrible mood swings and made me depressed, but that's just me. Yasmin is the best pill ever, it's from Greece, but then again it might be awful for someone else. In my experience I would say wait one cycle (4 weeks) and then ask for a different one.

Microgynon might not be the best pill for you.
Doctors prescribe it because it's the cheapest but it's not the most effective.
I'm agreeing with above, Yasmin works great for me too. (Apart from after being on it for god knows how long...like a year? It doesn't appear to be as effective at making my periods light...but as you want it for mood swings that shouldn't be an issue.)
I'd say give microgynon a chance....But I found it crap and I know others say the same.

Maybe you could take it as soon as you wake up - or before you go to sleep - or with your other meds if you have any? then you might not forget in future....mind you i still forget :P

i haven't heard of the pill being prescribed to help with mood swings, apart from menopausal ones, but that doesn't mean it isnt done. i'm assuming they have done hormonal blood tests to figure out that this is whats causing them
if you are worried about it not helping, see your doctor.
with the late taking, its generally alright to take it up to 12 hours late, then continue taking it as normal. if its beyond that, generally take it as soon as you remember, skip the next dose then continue taking as normal. but i would ask a pharmacist or refer to the intructions in the leaflet just to be sure.
KaTx has a good point, taking it with other pills, unless you doctor or pharmacist says otherwise, will help you remember to take it, or if you dont take other pills, take it when you first get up, if thats around the same time each day. or if your a school go-er, take it as you leave the house. it make it easier if its routine. or if you have a mobile with a calender or alarm function, set an alarm of sorts on it to remind you, most have a daily repeat function with alarms. that helped me a bit. but i was still really bad at remembering to take it, so i ended up getting the bar in my arm, but this was for contraceptive purposes so i'm not sure that it would help you.

yasmin seemed alright for me.

dianette just makes me gain weight.

in my pill information leaftlet, you're allowed to be 12 hours late. but it might be diff for other ones x
