I got this strawberry daiquiri flavored wine stuff. Yeah, I know that's weird, but I didn't feel like going to the liquor store, I'm not a fan of beer, I don't own a cork screw, and the strawberry stuff was cheap, not beer, and in a screw-top bottle. So it tastes pretty good (especially for an under $3 bottle of wine, although it has almost no alcohol), but it's carbonated. WTF? I get why the raspberry wine was carbonated (although I wish it wasn't), strawberry daiquiris aren't carbonated...

I really miss being able to buy hard liquor at the grocery store. I mean, I can kinda see why Oregon doesn't allow it, considering that the Safeway I go to when I'm in California consistently fails to check my ID (and people usually think I'm about 14), but it still sucks to have to go to the liquor store to get anything good...

You're in the UK I take it? Then yeah, Safeway here is something completely different... which we have everywhere and definitely isn't anything to be jealous of. The one near my parents' house is open 24 hours, and sells proper liquor. Longs is too. They're next door to each other. I just miss being able to go and buy liquor anonymously at odd hours of the night... The liquor store here is small, and the person has started to recognize me. Yeah, I bought alcohol without being ID-ed in Oakland cause the Safeway person didn't ask, but in Portland it was cause the liquor store person remembered me from last time.

I can't buy it in bulk for anxiety reasons. Plus I'd probably still drink it within a few days, and I don't really need to have more of it in my room.

But yeah, I stll think i's dumb that they carbonated something thats meant to be a fake strawberry daquiry.

Yeah, the English Safeway closed down, and is now mostly known as "Morrisons", who currently employ me.

America really confuses me. They hand out guns willy nilly, but people fail to check ID, so they enforse some law stating hard liqour can only be purchased in specialised liqour stores? At least that is what I have gathered from the above.
Why not just sort out the IDing problem?

It's in the same ball park as "Holy ****, people are going around shooting each other...we need to push more guns out to the people!".

And this is the worlds superpower, with the power to send a great deal of nuclear war heads at any particular country of their choosing, at any particular time!

I don't quite see what guns have to do with it. But you can't just buy a gun without ID or anything. They have to check your idea, run it through a data base to make sure you don't have a history that should stop you buying a gun, and then there's a waiting period of several days before you can actually have the gun. However, there's a gun show exception to the waiting rule.

The alcohol thing isn't the whole country - it's just this one state. And the reason isn't just to reduce underage drinking even though that's the most obvious one to me. The liquor stores are all state approved, and they have lots of reasons for wanting to control the sale of hard liquor. Part of that is just taxes and stuff - it's not just to enforce restrictions in drinking.

P.S. I'm not defending gun policies in the US - I rant about that for pages - it's just not particularly relevant to this thread...
