Waterstones book shop

Has anyone else noticed that on new releases they have increased their prices to £7.99.

£1 might not seem a lot but £8 for a book.....!

Thoughts anyone?

You know, I havn't been in waterstones for ages. I always go down the local book store, I would rather be supporting them than a big chain. Not that I hate Waterstones or anything, but the local chains do tend to charge more so...pretty normal for me.

7.99 for a new release hardback?

bargin if you ask me, they are usually about 15+ quid,

paperback are usually around the 6.99 mark (very big generalisation here, obviously depends on the book)

books are expensive things in my opinion,

books are getting so over priced just for a bit of paper with a bit of typing on it.
my book for english exam is about £20, £20 and im going to use it once.

I've found that Waterstones is often mildly cheaper than Borders, but I buy a book every time I'm out so

Book prices are less to do with the shop and more to do with the publisher.

Thats really cheap for me... I mean the past three books I have bought have been about 10-15 pound. But yeah I do agree that does seem quite steep if you compare prices with like 3 years ago.

thats not a bad price for a book actually
if i buy an older book i usually go to the cheaper shops like book world or the local market (books brand new, older editions but first hand for about £2-£5)
however sme books yoo can only get at like waterstones, so thats an okay price
i spend about £50-£100 on books every month lol :(

Waterstones is cheaper than borders mosta the time.
Sussex Stationers/British bookshops is blatantly the best though coz it's overly cheap.

ah, i never buy books from waterstones. it's farrr too expensive.
i buy most of my books in charity shops and even though i don't always get what i'm looking for, it's still good, and cheap.

can i just say that i work at waterstones
AND we have no say in how much books cost
that's the publishers decision

ALSO books have the same base price everywhere (the one printed on the back of the book)
they're cheaper from certain places if they're on offer

which is more the fault of the economy or something than waterstones in specific
and infact waterstones are often cheaper than independant bookstores, because they have '£3 off' stickers and stuff
i know because i have used a lot of those stickers recently
they will be the death of me
