Mums

Currently there are at least three threads on page 1 of General Chat all about Mums. Of course they're necessary creatures (cooking, cleaning, washing, ironing come immediately to mind!) but what about we poor bloody Dads?

Just because there are more female members on RYL surely doesn't mean that the site has to become some sort of Girlie convention - or is it?

Tony (in male chauvinist mode).

Never surrender.

My Dad's ace, though he's more of a woman than my Mum!
He also isn't very Dad like, goes out clubbing more often than I do and has a new boyfriend far more frequently than I do. But he's lovely and he always has nice food and lots of alcohol in his house.

My father amuses me =D
He is also a bit good when I go very very mental.
He used to completely freak out and not understand all my SI type stuff but now he's fantastic. (His mum and grandmother were both sectioned and he suffers from depression quite a bit...so it was all really hard for him)
And he says things like "I still like the occasional spliff every now and then" and "Can I say ballbags at the dinner table?" (to which I replied only if you do it like Russell brand...followed by an awful impression.) which make my day!
AND he came to Placebo with me =D
And prbably knows a hell of a lot more about current music than me.
He's one of these really...interested people..he's always looking to learn something and like...he's just facinated by nature and science and stuff.
My dad is a completely fantastic person and I don't know where I'd be without him.

Seeee Tony? I could write an essay about my dad if you wanted =p

My dad's superman.
FACT.
There's no person who it'll be possible for me to love more then I love my dad.

I'm such a daddy's girl it's sickening.

Amongst other things, like teaching you how to fix shelves while they sit back with a beer, Dads are for hugging. Don't ever forget it ...

Tony (did I really start this thread?)

Never surrender.

It's a very well known fact that hugs off the Dad can and will cure all ailments. Ranging from annoying stupid boys, to having no money, to feeling sick, to just generally having a rather bad day.

I take back my previous post.
I think you answered your own question...
By your own admission, what do dad's do?

My daddy can cook fantastically, but he chooses to live off southern fried chicken and mushy peas. He doesn't really clean. He's a fab ironer, though.

I live with my mum for convenience sakes - we share the same food tastes, have the same cleanliness values, both want to (and do) travel lots - whereas with my dad, we go to the pub, do the crossword, and have conversations about an expanding universe.
Fun times!

Hmm....let's think...what does my father do?? Oh, I know:
-Finds fault with everything I do
-Hates me because I'm female
-Find girlfriends who can abusive me for years without him noticing despite me trying to tell him
-Hits me when I annoy him (normally by just being in the room)
-Finds other gf's who have sons who are rapists....and then attacks him with a knife, leaving me to do the clearing up
-Despite all that expects me to sort out his life for him
-Moans at me if I dont contact him for weeks, but doesn't once make any attempt to contact me.
-Tells me I shouldn't still be at school, and that I'm lazy for doing so
-Screams at me for getting "only 1 A*" in my GCSE's (the rest were A's - what more does he want)

Erm....I could go on, but I'll stop there.

But yes - I'm sure some fathers are excellent...my stepdad is. Unfortunately, mine isn't one of them!

Tony opened up a can of worms me think.

Not ALL Dads are evil, and I do indeed miss Daddy hugs, dispite being 20, however, I have known the past generation of fathers to be less than admirable.

I'm no longer on my fathers will, I am dropping his name in both my middle and last names. I no longer refer to him as Dad, mearly "Nick", often followed by the word "****".

Dicky!

I had a similar conversation about 'us males' on the whole the other day oddly enough. If a father fulfills his stereotypical role, then he's seen as nothing special, like i said, behind the scenes. A mother 'role' is in the foreground of society. Its the extremes of 'us' males which are seen.

Anyway, Jelly Fairy: *hugs*

agreed!!!

i personally get on better with my father, he's not there as much as my mother; yet i learn more from him because he's not there as much, i know how to look after finances, repair things, etc. He remains calm. I guess its because when my mother has gone to an extreme of an emotion, i always end up getting hurt, just general hurt!!!

My dad doesn't hug me.

Ever.
Can't actually remember when he last hugged me actually.
