Triggering (SI) - Hi - I'm new here

Hi - I wanted to introduce myself to the veterans support forum as I was given the advice from the general introductory forum. I'm 48 and started self harming when I was 38 and feel very isolated with this as all the help out there seems to be for the young. Should I know better? I hate myself so much and use it to punish myself most of the time for not dealing with life the way I want to. Other times I do it to feel alive at all.

I only ever get a few days when it doesn't happen and then off we go again. I say "we" because I believe there is someone in there with the real me who nags at me constantly about how bad I am and how I need to self harm.

At this time of year when the weather is good it's a nightmare as I have to wear long sleeves all the time and I so don't want to have to do that.

Sorry but I needed to start somewhere and today is a particularly difficult day for a lot of reasons so I thought I'd try talking to you guys and see if you could identify with me at all?

Hi and welcome to vets *hugs*. I don't think you should 'know better' and there are a few vets that are 'older' as well. I think a lot of us can identify with the 'other part' that tells us bad things about ourself (sorry if that wasn't what you meant) and the weather this time of year really sucks (damn global warming lol). I'm not sure what to say but feel free to post away here and be sure nobody will judge anything you say.

Welcome!!! A lot of the people who are more computer savvy as I would say are the young but I was surprised to learn that the second biggest group of people who SI are beginning to be the people who are getting to be in your age group. I read something about it in an article about it (can't remember where) but it said that people of your age and older are beginning to SI more and they thought it was odd.

Anyway I can get off on tangents sometimes. We welcome you no matter at what stage in your life you are in. I hope you find what you need here.
