Migraines

Okay so I get A LOT of migraines, but it's never been a huge issue with my doctor, I mean, my mom has the same problem. But lately, my migraines have been lasting a lot longer, the one I have now, I've had for over 2 weeks...its hard to function and even get up but with finals at school I've had to suck it up and deal. My mom thinks its because of stress, but I've been super stressed like this before and it hasn't happened. Does anyone else have this problem? Is it a huge thing that I should worry and/or bother my doctor about? Thanks so much!

It can be affected by changes in hormonal levels, many women get migraines b/c of that, might be worth talking to your doctor about

You should ask for a brain scan to find out the reason why you're having so many.

I have a lot of migraines (though less lately, thank god) and I think you should tell your doc about them.
In the meantime, you can get Ibuprofen from your pharmacist. I'm not sure what brands you are but I use something 400 so it's quite a lot of ibuprofen.

One of my friends suffers from migraines when she's stressed. In that case, I'd advise you a few relaxation sessions, complete with a couple massages (can't hurt)

hmmm... I want massages

ok, some serious advice now.

What you describe sounds much like a tension headache, or a chronic tension headache, those of which i have and have suffered for everyday for about 9 months.

My advice to would be to go and see your doctor about it and get it checked out, just to make sure it isnt anything else or that it isnt a problem with your eyes causing the headache.

The doctors found no cause for my headaches and surmised that it must be from stress seeing as i have been doing exams. I wasnt feeling particularly stressed either, and i have now discovered that i think the headaches are related to depression and am preparing to make an appointment with the doctor.

If you feel this is also the case i suggest you do the same.

If normal pain killers arent working i suggest 2 ibuprofen and 2 paracetamol, no more than three times a day and with 4 hrs in between . You must have eaten something to take this. This i find more helpful than nurofen and similar tablets.

Is the headache near your temples and lilke pressure on your head? If so this is probably the cause.

Dont panic, it probably isnt anything major.

PM me if you want to know more coz this is a subject i am very familiar with.

hope you feel better

I have the same problem, i had a migraine for 5 weeks, was in hospital for most of it because it was so severe. It does happen.

You should probably speak to your GP, any changes in migraine pattern/symptoms need to be checked out in case they are a sign of something else going on.

Hope you feel better soon.

This is severe and as it is disrupting your life you should be getting more help or investigations. I dont know if this would be suitable or if you have already tried medications called Imigran, the proper med name is sumuptripan, my dad takes it as soon as he has signs of a migraine and it works fairly quickly usually and prevents them developing into a full blown long-lasting migraine. Also if you experiance nausea and vomiting you should be given anti-emetics (anti-sickness) meds.

I would go back and pester them till they help because you dont deserve to live like this and have your whole life disrupted for such a long time.

Take care xoxox

I think caffene, chocolate, cheese, citrus fruits and alcohol can trigger migraine attacks, so maybe try to avoid these for a while and see if it helps? Just an idea. :)

Thanks for all the help guys...actually kind of like someone said I think it might no only connected with stress but also depression because now that I think about it I've been a lot more depressed lately and thats kind of when the migraines started and then the stress hasn't helped, they're a little bit better now that school's out but we'll see how it goes...it was super bad yesterday and then I got a phone call from work and wanted to know if I could come in then and work a double shift because someone had to go to the hospital, so I worked from noon until 10 yesterday which didn't help, and I'm doing the same shift next saturday (well 11-10) but we'll see how things work out...thanks again for the help

I have no idea what could be causing your migraines, it's different for everybody, but I recommend going to the doctors. Also, get your eyes checked out, when I got glasses my migraines stopped for about three years!

Also, get to your local pharmacy and ask for co-codamol. You don't usually need a prescription for it, and because it's got a codeine base it's more effective than ibuprofen, though it may make you feel nauseous.

(Just as a side note, be careful with what the doctor prescribes you. Mine prescribed me Co-codamol and Metoclopramide, which is an antiemetic. The only problem is one of the common side effects of Metoclopramide is depression, so be careful...)

Well I do have glasses, but I rarely use them because they're such a pain cause I WILL NOT wear them all the time and the MAIN time I need it is for stuff far away (like in school and driving...) so I usually keep them in my car, but you'd think if the migraines were because of that they would have started getting really bad a long time ago???
