Part-time work?

I'm trying to apply for a job but I don't know what they mean by 'part-time' - Is there an amount of hours recognised nationally for 'part-time' or is it different for every job? - I looked on directgov but it was confusing
I can only work 16 hours due to being ill/benefits etc, so obviously I'll have to tell them at the interview but how do I explain it? I've ticked the 'not-disabled' box, but I'm on DLA coz I haven't been able to work.

Also - I''ve never had a job & they are asking for previous employee references - I've done voluntary work so could I put that down?

for mcdonalds (where I work) parttime is generally less than 3 shifts a week, part time is more
so like, 21/24 hours max part time, more full time (up to like, 42 I think)

not sure what the uk wide recognised thing is though -/

erm, did you do school work experience and how long ago was it? voluntary work could be accepted.

my advice would be (since the above is my thoughts, not proper advice) to go to CAB/job center if possible

It depends on the job but its generally around 20 hours.

Also maybe just explain that you are on DLA due to whatever reason so you'd only be able to work 16 hours a day.

All work, even voluntary counts, so yes, you can stick that down as a reference.

Your voluntary work should be fine for references.
