youtube videos

Hey, i know this is a random question but can someone please tell me how I can make a video to put on youtube on my computer I can never seem to manage it. I'm probably being extremely stupid in asking this.

I am currently:
Use a phone or video camera and upload it on your pc.
Make an account on YouTube.
Then upload the video.
