Sophie Kinsella for feel good rubbish that's funny xD
Michael COnnely writes really good crime books
Dean Koontz has some really good books out too but a few are a just a bit weird, his latest stuff is great.
Melvin Burgess - Junk, teenage book but deals with heroin addiction+being a runaway, being pregnant etc, amazing.
Marian Keyes for more feel good humour :)
There's loads more I can think of so I'll post again if I remember them.
Try amazon.com to find some you could rent from the library? If you search a book you like it will come up with a "people who liked this also liked...", could help you find books you would enjoy.

depends on what kinds of books you like, but I'd recommend "The Living End" by Stanley Elkin, "A Clockwork Orange" by Anthony Burgess, or "The Wall - And Other Stories" by Jean Paul Sartre
Bill Bryson's books are easy and light to read but they're interesting at the same time...
The Hobbit by Tolkien (its one of my favourite books, i never got on with the LOTR series!)
Any books by Rob Grant (one half of the writing team for Red Dwarf)

but if you get through the first chapter or so, its utterly brilliant

Well I plan of finishing the bloody kite runner by sunday (Not that it's a bad book... it's just I really haven't felt like reading recently.... My head is abit odd at the moment)
If you could pick a few which are awesome that you could lend to me (Preferably not part of a series, I don't like reading things out of sequence) i'd love you even more :D
Definitely check out Chuck Palahniuk. Invisible Monsters is probably my favorite, but they are all really good. Haunted is very gruesome, though. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath Atonement by Ian McEwan Water for Elephants by Sally Gruen...its a beautiful book. Its kind of like a fairy tale, its set back around the depression era and follows a train circus. Its so good, I had chills while reading the last like ten pages.
