What do you do...

When you're too depressed to work but have rent to pay?

Yeah if you go down to citizens advice they should be able to sort you out with what to do. They'll probably point you in the direction of the job centre who I think assess you for DLA to see what your entitled too. Also is there not some form of sick pay for your current job?

Reality leaves a lot to the imagination

You need to get signed off sick by your gp, then yeah see the jobcentre, plus housing benefit from the council

I won't get sick pay cause I'm a student. I was doing nursing and getting and NHS student grant, just finished my first year (if I've passed my retakes that is) but I'm not starting the second year, for now at least, so my grant has stopped, (I was getting about £100 a week.) I don't know if I'd be eligible for DLA.. does anyone know or have a link to the kind of condition you have to be in or something? This all seems a bit scary. I should have been in therapy months ago but I'm still on the waiting list... would they be the ones to see? :S

Hi Quark, Dark Light is correct in saying that your GP should be the one to carry out an assessment which then would lead them to authorise the necessary arrangements for you to receive the support you need, your GP should tell you what your next move is and where to take your application or claims.

Good luck,
Take Care.

You need your GP to sign you off, then take the sickline to the jobcentre and start an application for Income Support (in the first instance)

you should also complete a form for housing benefit and council tax benefit

it can be a bit of a faff to start off, but you need money to survive

DLA is not income assessed, I am a student and I receive it, such as I would get it even if I was in full time eployment.

Nothing to lose by applying.
