how could they?

My flatmates.

They've KILLED the camellia.

I twined it to grow around the fence. It had flower buds ready to open on it.

It survived re-planting and the winter. It was a sign of hope. I was taking care of it.

And they just threw it away.

Without even asking.

Ok, so it wasn't my plant exactly. And it was a bit straggly. But it was growing. It was a living thing. I was taking care of it. And they killed it.

I am speechless with rage and very upset.

I don't trust myself to talk with my flatmates right now, to say anything.
I'm aware not speaking is not very mature either.

But it ... it's like it's killed something in me, too. And I'm not sure how to cope.

Thank you Katy.

I know it shouldn't completely ruin my day, but it feels like it has. It's like being disrespected, or bullied, or ... all over again.
Plus it was a living thing. How can someone just cast it aside like that?

I can also totally understand why you are upset. I suspect that probably in their minds it was just a stupid straggly plant they wanted rid of. Totally ignoring that a) it was living and b) you were taking care of it.

Flatmates can be insensitive unfortunately!

i had this rubber plant for about i don't know 5 years that i raised from a trimming and it was little and nearly died a bunch of times but i loved it and it was mine and it was still alive and my mother just threw it out one day without even asking because it was outside during a storm and most of the leaves fell off. i was so upset.
i can relate. they really had to have noticed that you were caring for it, right? that is frustrating. when you calm down you should just say something to them because they didn't mean to but you deserve an apology.
