Can anyone recommend?

I'm looking for books. Firstly I want something sort of futuristic but realistic at the same time, sort of like Exodus by Julie Bertagna (if anyone has read that, its an awesome book!).
OR... Something sort of like Harry Potter, a sort of fantasy book that involves a school or such.
Another type of book I'm looking for is something about being in a psych ward, preferably fiction (my mum doesnt like me reading anything about real people, she thinks it might depress me). Something sort of like Girl, Interrupted, but fiction.

If you have any recommendations that are or arent within these ideas, I'd be greatly appreciative. I need to read something other than Harry Potter lolz!

Like Mrs Rum said, pretty much anything by Terry Pratchett is awesome.

As for the futuristic and fantasy sort of books, you might try Anne Mccaffrey's "Pegasus" series ("To Ride Pegasus", "Pegasus in Flight", and "Pegasus in Space", etc.) They're about people called "Talents", who have powers like telepathy, telekinesis, healing, and stuff like that, and how they try to fit into a normal society set in the near future.
