Do You Believe In Angels?

A friend from work was telling me how her mother kept seeing people just before she died. She said to my friend, "What are these people staring at?" This was an ongoing thing until she died that night!!!.

Now at 1st I was thinking that this woman had demencia, however, based on religious beliefs and legends, I have read that Angels make themselves appear to the dying, to get them ready to take them away.

This is shown in the film with Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan "City of Angels" - which happens to be one of my favourite films.

I was just wondering if anyone is like me and believe in angels and if so what experiences have you had if any!!!!!
Thank you for reading :)

...I believe in a God, a heaven, a Devil and a hell. And yes, I believe in angels. But I rarely tell people this, because they tend to judge you.

I have made a couple of attempts at my life, but the second one restored my faith in god. As I was watching the world spin around and I was throwing up everything that could possibly be in my stomach, something...was different. I couldn't even beggin to explain it to you, all I can tell you is, I started to believe in God again.

Please, for the love of God don't talk to me about this anymore though, it will be one of the very rare occasions you do hear about it.
And I don't know why, but in some ways it scares me.

I hope you're ok Dicky..Nobody here would judge you, people who judge are ignorant and who's opinions are biased to suite themselves and what they want to hear, not what is factual or to be the truth.

Exactly. Though, I've kind of got over that now and tend to be open about it.

Anyways, yes I believe in angels. I see them as beings created by God and doing His will and all thattt, in keeping with my beliefs. One of my favourite theologians (Aquinas) is known as the angelic doctor. Heh, no idea why I felt the need to say that. But yes, I don't go in for the whole New Age angel thing, I think it's weird. edit - not meaning to be horrible about it, if anyone does. I can see the attractions of having the angels without being Christian or whateverr.

I wish that were true. I've found RYL to be one of the most judgmental places when you're open about your faith / religion. I can understand why, it just makes me kind of sad.

Despite the fact that people may judge, it is very interesting to read people's views on things I find.

I think I believe in angels. I say think, because i'm undecided on whether that's a true belief, or a fantasy that I only want to believe in because it "sounds nice". I'm pretty sure it's the former, but I guess I can't be 100%. I don't believe in angels in any religious sense however.. just an afterlife sense.. I guess I believe in ghosts.. so I believe in some afterlife.. so I believe angels exist..

I make no sense.
Perfect.

Love all things (not just cute things like babies and kittens) & when you do love - love like they do in power ballads (you know like on a cliff with the wind in your hair and your eyes shut, knowing you'll never know love like this). Watch out for dog poo. Smile at people - even grumpy ones. Remember anything is possible & whatever you do always try to look on the bright side."

I understand what you're saying, however, I think maybe you'd perhaps get that everywhere you go because it's such a contentious topic and open to so many points of view and because it's such a passionate topic it may become very sensitive. I've not been a member of this forum for very long, however, I hope I can say that I'm sure people don't mean to be judgemental. I do believe though that people should say what they want and how they feel without worrying about being judged, and I think maybe places like this forum is probably where it least happens ! You take for instance places of work, I've never met a more judgemental bunch than where I work, they are constantly back stabbing and gossiping over things that aren't normally even true. I'd trust a forum like this 100 times over than where I work !! *hugs*

Mainly when religious things get tense is when religious extremism is brought into account, like on the discussion about the Baby Bible Bashers documentary.

I believe in God, angels, demons, Satan, the whole nine yards. I'm Christian, but I'm against beating people over the head with it. Religion kills. Period. And being Christian is not about being "religious", but about personal spirituality.

Gosh, I sound like a complete idiot...I sound like a Hallmark card. Anyways, it's hard to explain, that invisible little line between faith and the Inquisition.

I believe in angels - I think that we are surrounded by angels, they're just disguised as the people we see everyday.

I know I certainly wouldn't still be here without a couple of my angels.

Yeah, I understand what you mean. I have nothing against discussion and other people putting their views forwards. I also have nothing against it becoming somewhat heated as long as it isn't out of control - I love nothing more than a good debate about religion. And no, I don't mean I like to "beat people over the head" with my faith, I just think it's a topic that's open to discussion as much as any other, and an interesting one at that. Most places, I'll find that peole have strong views but that they'll be able to discuss it and put their points across, and yes sometimes it gets a bit too heated, but I can understand that. What I don't appreciate is when there's a thread about religion / someone wants advice from a religious perspective, people come in and simply say things like "this is stupid / [other negative adjective]" and turn it into a big thing about how religion is evil and blah blah when that wasn't the purpose of the thread at all. I have noticed that happening here, although to be fair, it hasn't been bad lately. Anyways, I'm going to shut up now seeing as this also was not the purpose of this thread.

Btw, are we allowed to discuss this? Or does it come too close to being a religious debate?

I'm completly the same as you! I ****ing hate people that try and force any religion on people. I hate these people that set up stalls and "shout the name of God". They can **** right off.

But yes, extreamism is the main cause of problems, not the religion its self.

I believe spirit entities both good and bad (and sometimes bad can fake being good). When little kids tell me they see things in their rooms I believe them and don't attribute it to imagination. As people get older they lose the spiritual eyes they had as kids. In a spirit sense I suppose I could say I believe in Angeles but not the chubby cheeked blue eyed, blond haired, Aryan types. Twice while falling asleep I "heard" short warnings about some things about to happen - and they did. On the flip side I have twice had the room I was sleeping in go cold and I sensed something in the room that wanted to kill me. I was never on drugs or particularly emotional about anything. I was never a church goer. Most of the experiences above came after I was doing some really good things or bad. Most of the time we live in the "bla" middle but a move away from gray starts tunning up other faculties. Heightened intuition is normal and being taught to
rely on finite intellect and analysis actually deprives people of their whole faculties - but people think they have more instead of less because egotistically they think they know alot because they memorised "stuff".

It's weird though, because it's so easy to have someone call you a hypocrite. For example, if the subject is brought up, I'll tell you what I believe is right or wrong. If someone asked me about considering becoming a Christian themselves, I'd tell them my opinion on the subject, as well as what I know about the beliefs of people I consider to be highly informed. And you can be an evangelist or a preacher without being too...well, preachy.

My church's preacher is amazing. He has a good sense of humor, he'll make fun of the short comings of the average believer in a good way, and he talks to us in a down to earth way. Not all fire and brimstone. My parents are Southern Baptist, and not to bash any other Baptists here, but I couldn't take the preachers who came to the small church I grew up in. Anyone seen Pollyanna? Or read the early American essay, "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God"? A lot like that...

Preachers yelling at me makes me feel like they want me to worship the Vito Corleone of gods.

My ex and I were caring for his elderly aunt who was battling (a losing fight) with cancer. About 3 to 5 days before she finally passed (she had a hard long fight about 9 years). She kept staring up in the corner. Well she looked over at me (now keep in mind she was heavily drugged) and asked “how do you think they get their hair so pretty and perfect?” I asked “Who?” she replied “Those dolls that have been in and out of here lately!” She then gasped and chuckled “Oh I am sorry I mean the angels” then she looked at me and whispered “oh I guess they do not like being called dolls”. Now I am not sure if it was the drugs or the angels but there was a sense of peace in her that had not been there before. I personally strongly believe in angels. But I have theological reasons for that. But real or not the idea of them brings peace to so many that hey even if its only fairytale they aren’t hurting anyone!

On a side not on the religious discussion the reason people get so bent out of shape about it is simple. Most religions have ONE clear path to eternal damnation (or hell) or eternal happiness (or heaven). When you truly feel passionately about it, its hard to accept those who disagree because in the mind of the believer they are expecting your hellish fate. I personally and extremely dedicated to my faith however I struggled to get my faith and I struggle to hold on to it. So I know both sides of the issue and I know that in time we will all meet our fate and I just hold put hope that we all be better after life then were in it.

I [personally] find it hard to understand religion. I think faith is admirable but can't stop myself from seeing the loopholes.

And back to the sunject of the thread.. i've already answered.
I just thought i'd put it in for afters.

For me to believe in angels I'd have to believe in a higher power and I don't.
So... no.
