Are You Sentimental?

Being the sentimental person that I am, I'm a total saver when it comes to anything special and if it meant the world to me, i keep it scared. I keep things like birthday or "thank you" cards, gifts, items from special places i've attended; I savor special letters or poems, especially if they are handwritten because i know it's more personal when written by hand, old photos of my parents and grandparents when they were my age, i've kept all postcards from friends when we were at school and silly things like my payslips so on.

Most importantly, however, i keep memories that were special to me close to my heart.

So I was wondering if anybody else was sentimental too? If so, what kinds of things have you held onto?

Thank you for reading.
Take Care.

People will forget what you said
People will forget what you did
But people will never forget how you made them feel

Ohh. I've just spent all evening sorting out my big box of photos/cards ect. Also put lots more up on my wall :)

I keep photos, cards from my grandparents, letters from friends, old diaries, gig tickets, school work from primary hah. All sorts of rubbish.

It's not really intentional, that I keep all this stuff. I just chuck it into the box and forget about it for months/years.

I'm extremely sentimental when it comes to some old toys or notebooks, drawing pads. Anything that shows quite a vivid connection with the childhood basically. Happy times innit (y)

I keep hold of everything that in some way holds a memory of anything at all. From letters & cards to a particular pen. It drives my friends crazy, especially when I sit for 20minutes trying to delete one text..

"Be nice. Think happy thoughts. Champion silver linings. Love all things (not just cute things like babies and kittens) & when you do love - love like they do in power ballads (you know like on a cliff with the wind in your hair and your eyes shut, knowing you'll never know love like this). Watch out for dog poo. Smile at people - even grumpy ones. Remember anything is possible & whatever you do always try to look on the bright side."

I still have my old old shoes, because I can't bring myself to throw them away. I feel guilty.
I've been walking on them for so long, and they served me so well, I feel I need to reward them in some way other than to chuck them in the bin.

Never actually came up with a better way to reward them though.
God I'm so very weird.

Dicky!

I have a 'Box of special things' it's a battered old shoe box that I put things in that meant something to me at the time of putting them in.
I look through it every few months and it makes me smile and miss things, and regretful and just... yeah, all the emotions sentimentality can bring,

How many ticks left in that clockwork heart?

Some sentimentality can be sweet and healthy thing, But it can also get harmful if people fall too far into it and rip themselves up. Obviously a break-up could be painful in itself but people can make it worse by falling into memories and crying to songs and sinking morbidly into ideas that life will never be the same again etc. There are people who can sink so far into that their lives are ruined by a despair (if not even ended when they feel they need to extinguish themselves - or turn to drugs etc - to escape the pain and futility they feel ) that they intensified greatly unawares. Let hurty things hurt without magnifying the torture thinking your being poetic (thats why poets are often miserable).

never let it stop you. never let them tell you you can't do it, because every moment you fight you're winning a battle. never let the set backs stop you. when you're hurt, when you're tired? keep going. don't give up.

That is very true indeed. Everybody has their way of dealing with a break up of a relationship, it's normally always black or what isn't it. I honestly believe that the best way to get over someone is be able to look back in the past without hurting anymore, should that familiar song be played, or should that poem be read again, should that joke be shared again with someone else, if you hear that cute nickname you shared being said by someone else, whatever it was that makes you think about them, if you are able to just truly smile at it rather than feeling the pain of missing them so much, then I think you've achieved something amazing by becoming an emotionally stronger person for it too.

I have all personal emails from my friends and from my ex (4 years worth of emails from him)
Plus I keep concert stubs, photos, letters, special cards and texts.
I don't just keep any random ones though, because I would never have enough space and they don't mean anything after awhile.
But I still have a letter written to me by my grandparents when I was a child before my grandad died

If you jump i'll break your fall
Lift you up and fly away with you into the night
If you need to fall apart
I can mend a broken heart
If you need to crash then crash and burn

Oh, I am very very very sentimental, to the point where it's silly.
I cried when our last car was sold, and I have boxes and boxes of things I can't throw out, but don't really need.
Perhaps that's more obsessive than sentimental...

I just keep most things 'cos I never know when I may need them again. Though, if I recieve letters or someone draws me something I'll keep it. Usually no matter what it's related to - good times or bad times. And little funny things I've picked up on my travels I'd keep too, you 'cos they're funny. So, I suppose I am pretty sentimental.

i am too. but i only keep things that are really special to me. I have a whole envelope full of thank you notes from my primary school teacher for christmass gifts. I also have an old party invitation from my first boyfriend, and lots of other random things! it's nice to look back on them from time to time and remember. :)

Where can you run to escape from yourself?
