different languages

i'm sorry to ask for MORE clarity in the rules, as i know they've been gone over time and time again, but i just wanted to ask..
is posting a rant in the r&v forum in another language for the purpose of others not being able to read it allowed?
and is posting lyrics in another language allowed?
thanks a lot
emily

One sentence is fine - extend blocks, especially if they are used to deliberately mask something that would otherwise break the rules is what we are looking out for with this one.

May I just stress how hard it is to cross the line with most of these rules. Never will a Mod punish a member for a one off accidental slip up. What we care about are members who go out of there way to deliberately say or do things that will hurt others. Thus members who care about those around them and who stay within reasonable limits of kindness and behaviour will never need to worry about any of these.
Posting lyrics, I'm sure, would be fine as long as it's not intentionally breaking rules, and posting in another language to avoid that.
Hope this helps a little.

I'm not sure specifically what the rules are but given that you're allowed (as far as I'm aware) to type your post in white, so it's only visible when highlighted would cover the same thing, i.e, at least some of the community might not realise what was up and therefore not read it. It'd seem silly to prevent rants being written in a foreign language, assuming you didn't have anything specifically about one person, i.e "Oui, Zorro, quelle wanker" :P

This is a slightly tricky question - because really it depends.

If the rant was in another lanuage, and was then found to be sarcasticly about another member, RYL, that staff etc - then that would be very different, and we would 'frown' on members doing so simply because the Mod don't really have time to go translate other languages so they can attempt to find out what it is about.

But to answer your questions directly, no, Rants in other languages would be fine (within reason - we might have a word if every other rant you did was in another language - this is after all an english site) and the odd set of lyrics in Italian or whatever, especially in the Creative or Reviews forums would be fine

Hope that helps :)

So you mean that.. for example if I get really really confused and need to write it down I can come and write it in rant/vent using my own language?

sorry if that sounds stupid question.. I wasn't sure if I get what was explained.. (and no, it's not just that I'm tired.. or maybe it is)

Basically, the odd rant in your language is fine! Just not all the time.
Hope that helps.

With all the fast online translators these days, you wouldn't be able to post something in another language that someone couldn't translate if they wanted to (quite easily) anyway. It's as simple as a couple clicks, so if you don't want something read, why not just get a private journal to post in?

so i can have everything i want to write in one place and not worry about upholding a lot of different spaces.
and i understand the translating bit, but i'd still prefer that those who read are going to be the ones who take the time to translate.

I guess that's understandable *shrugs*. I suppose another language would deter some, its just hard for me to believe because I'm one of the curious ones who would translate it. I even have a site bookmarked where I can. heh.

I think another one of the issues is also that the Mods won't really be able to moderate a post in another language without finding someone who speaks it, or using a translator, and thats a lot of extra work for them

Well it breaks my heart to see you this way,
The beauty in life, where's it gone?
And somebody told me you were doing okay,
Somehow I guess they were wrong.

Thanks for clarifying this. So if I, as I have for erm....years now...post my journals or rants in Greek, I will get in trouble?
I understand that it is hard to translate and spend the time to do so for mods, but is this necessary in the r/v section? When that section was created I assumed it would be more 'free' so to speak and we could rant about politics, etc, other things not allowed in the other sections. Since we are not really engaging people in conversations and more speaking to ourselves/non-ryl members...why is it much of a problem?
I really don't/didn't like posting my rants in English because I knew the only people that would take the time to translate probably knew me, and the Greek translation ensured me more privacy in my rants then I would otherwise have. :-|
