A week ago I was in inpatient for about a week and a half.
I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder and PTSD with hallucinations. I was put on abilify and the hallucinations went away. Problem is I'm so bitchy and snappy. Am I supposed to be on something for depression?
And, what is the difference between depression and major depressive disorder?
Thanks.

Depression is more a state of mind. Major Depressive Disorder is a diagnosis. When a doctor goes to diagnose someone, they can't diagnose you simply as depressed-that's not a diagnosis. So MDD is what they diagnose you has. It basically means you suffer from prolonged bouts of depression. And you don't always have to go on meds for MDD. Sometimes it can be managed simply by therapy or other means.
Good luck with your treatments. And God Bless!
Snappiness and irritability can be part of PTSD. I know it is for me, as well as longterm Major Depression. Working feelings through in psychotherapy is generally what's best for that, although anti-depressants can relieve some of the worst of it.
