Triggering (SI/OD) - how do you ask for help?

ok this sounds really stupid but, how do i ask for help? i'm depressed, and i've got pms, and i haven't cut myself in like a week and a half, and i'm stressed about school, and going away next week, and my therapist is 'reviewing' how depressed i am tomorrow. i shouldn't feel so worked up about this and i know no one can change it but i feel sooo lonely and i need to ask for help, i know i do. i thought i was coping ok 'til i found myself in wilkinson's wondering if white spirit or antifreeze was more toxic.

how do i ask for help? i am scared to cause a fuss

Heya,
I know asking for help can seem very daunting and scarey but try not to stress about asking for help. Your therapist is there to help you, how can they help you if they don't know whats truely going on for you. Alot of people find it really helpful to write it down what they wanna say and just give that to their therapist or whoever they see as they find it less confrontational and an easier way to ask forhelp. Pheraps you may find that helpful. Hope this helps. Take care

Hey ya waiting in the dark,

I'm sorry you're going through this right now, but please don't feel stupid that you're asking these questions.

As already been mentioned that your therapist will help you and will give you the best advice on how to approach the coming events in your life. I understand how difficult it can be to ask people for help, especially those around you who don't really understand how you are feeling.

A very positive thing you said there was that you haven't cut yourself for over a week, that's really fantastic !

I hope you feel better soon ok.
Take Care.

It's certainly easier to write down how you feel rather than waiting to remember it all on the day in which case you may just bottle out of it anyway. Write down exactly how you're feeling inside, what's bothering you, what's upsetting you, what frightens you, what you think is stopping you from doing the things you want to do, what you'd like to do in life, what would make you happy... once you get going with it, you will see how the questions will start to flow once inspired. Just allow yourself to open up more as I sense you're feeling very tense and worried about how you're going to be perceived.

Go up to a random stranger.....

Grab them by the shoulders and say

"I need help"

1 of 3 things will happen

They will agree with you and then make a speedy exit.....they will punch you in the face....or they will take you to a doctor

Either way I think things will be sorted out so

*shrug*

is there anything i shouldn't say, anything that would make things worse than they have to be? sometimes i say things and people get confused, or tell my mum what i said, and i don't know what i'll have said. i don't want to confuse jane (my therapist) orsay anything she would tell my parents.

I think ulimately you should say how you're feeling and what's on your mind because if you don't then you may kick yourself later. The more you withold back, the more that issue isn't going to be discussed or worked on, and you're going to be thinking yet another missed opportunity which may make you feel worse for not saying how you really feel and then leaving you always back at square one. Telling parents is always going to be hit and miss because it depends on

a) how understanding they are
b) how familiar they are to this condition
c) if they're in the right frame of mind to listen in the first place (eg, if they are stressed or had a bad day they're not really going to be of much help to you as that's the last thing you need.

You need to talk to someone who's experienced and understanding, compassionate and logical in which would be able to depict and spot the areas you need improving whilst also at the same time giving you the encouragement. I myself am not a professional in the field, however, I have helped people in the past who I "sensed" were a little depressed so I made the first move towards them because, like you, I understand how hard it is to approach people and worrying how one is going to be embraced, my sister being one of those I approached, and I just made her feel she could talk to me about anything unreservedly. Unfortunately not many people have friends or relatives like this, I know I have absolutely no friends who would understand how I am feeling, my sister is about the only person who I could really tell things, but bless her she's so unwell right now that I wouldn't want to burden her with stuff, hence why I started to look elsewhere for help although I don't think I'm quite at the point where I would need a therapist.

I think you should tell your mum stuff, but try to observe what mood she's in first and then tell her, test the waters with people first before you go in with deep things.

Take Care ok..
