Romancing a God
Dancing between oblivion and across a pantheon of broken Gods
Tears keep falling like rain down upon me, "Have I disappointed you?"
A thousand memories wrapping me in a blanket that's other-wolrdly and soft to the touch
"Can I hold your hand? Or is that against your precious laws, your commandments?"
Suddenly I'm wondering if you're even real, you've never let anyone touch you
So dignified in your virginity that you flaunt in all it's glory
Let me pass my fingers against your flesh, just for a moment and I'll believe you
The smile you give me tells me that you're more than just a figurine standing by my bedpost,
on my nightstand for tradition's sake.
But you leave my side once the edge of the closest cloud begins to brighten gold
Slowly walking farther away until you dissipate into the wind, leaving nothing behind
Only a shallow memory of a dream that I'm not sure I've ever truly had
Shadows stalking my every move all day and sunlight beating them away
Loving a God and hiding from his Goddess;; praying silently against my beads
"Forgive me," I tell her before I find my way back into my bed again
Waiting for darkness to come with your figure and your silent words to caress my skin
My familiar blanket of lost memories wrapping me in a comfortable, shared solitude in your prescence
Something so innocent and so telling, taking me into your eyes but not your arms
"Can I touch your face, or will my skin turn to ash?"
Suddenly I'm wondering if you're ever going to touch my skin with yours
A God of a broken pantheon dreaming of touching skin with a mortal during the night
While his goddess of sunlight sleeps and he breathes the scent of his mistress
Letting his darkness surround me and carry me away from my closed-minded world
Trapped between darkness and sunlight,
"Should I never leave my house again, for our boldness?"
But no answer, your silent words are frustrating to an impurity of flesh and bone
Something that you could never love, I'm romancing a God
and gaining Hell in return.
But still you won't touch me, after all we've been throwing at the heavens you deny me
Whilst whispering quietly that there are different kinds of love
Mortal love is what I'm thinking I'm feeling from you but you're not mortal
So take back your blanket of securities before I shout to the pantheon the betrayal you've done
Don't toss your lightening around in my night-sky, I know your patience
Your solitude, your un-dying reverence and your compassion
Your threats mean nothing to the one whose loved you for eons
While you lye in the heavens living a lie; pretending you're the god you once were.
"Let me go from the torture of the same game we always played,
Let my spirit die. I'm tired of being your virgin Mary."
