Heya, I have been on fluoxetine for two weeks but I have been noticing that in those two weeks every time I drink I react much worse to it, as in get drunk quicker.
I was wondering if this is a coincidence or whether fluoxetine has this effect or something?
in theory ur not really supposed to drink on fluoxetine until you understand how it reacts with your reactions etc! I've found that i'm unable to drink on fluoxetine as it gives me violent head aches and i get quite agressive! i think r best bet wud be to halt on the drinking until you are aare of how it affects you and they maybe try phase it in :)
hope that helps xx

Reason: spelling errors..
Yeah you're not supposed to drink while on fluoxetine...Sorry about that.
You're a star the way you are
You know you're not fooling anyone, no
You got the eyes of an angel
Don't try to change, yeah
Everybody's got their scars
Nevermind how ugly they are
No matter what they tell you
You're beautiful the way you are

from my experience, pretty much any medication prescribed for anxiety, depression, bipolar, etc, shouldn't be mixed with alcohol or drugs. my psychiatrist always reminds me.
" my precious, precious child, I love you and I would never, never leave you during your times of trials and suffering. When you see only one set of footprints it was then that I carried you" you were carried out of are lifes into the next and when its my time to leave this life I know i will be carried into the next life with you.
I wish i had my world complete again.

The reason you shouldn't drink while on antidepressents is because alcohol is a depressent so it counteracts the meds. If you are regularly putting any drug (including medication) into your body it will alter how other drugs affect you.
I also found that fluoxetine really changed how much I was able to drink. I continued to drink but it took some getting used to and I had to constantly monitor myself because my intake was so different. You are discouraged from drinking while on your medication, basically because it's not going to work as well. If you are going to drink, you need to be really careful though.
Sorry this is a bit incoherent.
i always got a banging headache while i drunk whilst on fluxotine. Real pain in the ass but it didnt stop me :D
Thought I oughta bare my naked feelings
Thought I oughta tear the curtain down
I held the blade in trembling hands
Prepared to make it but just then the phone rang
I never had the nerve to make the final cut
Nothing will happen, you just get drunk quicker when on anti depressants, so you don't need to spend tons of money in a bar to get drunk. :P
Seriously: while I don't think it's really dangerous or anything (else the information leaflet would've mentioned it) alcohol is adviced against because it kind of renders the effect of the medication zero.
I only got drunk on Fluoxetine a few times (the first time I was scared, but nothing happened), and it was ok IMO because I only had to have a few drinks to get drunk because of the meds!
Only drink if you're in a good mood to start with though, otherwise it will just make you more upset... that's what I found anyway. I eneded up crying at my friends house once :|

Well I think that's always the case, even when you're not on any meds it's always a bad idea to drink and/or do drugs when you're in a bad mood...
I had not been warned of this and should have read the leaflet more closely!
I have been on this for five weeks now and have had a couple of glasses of wine here and there and been okay, BUT, twice now I have had a couple more than I should and Lord have I suffered!!
I have been violently ill, vomiting and the most excrutiaing headaches ever!
I did not realise it was because of the medication the first time, I thought I had just had one drink two many, although I thought it was odd to be so ill.
The second time it happened I became suspicious because I knew that I had drunk that much before without that reaction.
So I read the leaflet more closely and saw that they advised to avoid alcohol.
Believe me, from now on I will be very careful.
when i was on fluoxetine i asked the gp about drinking and she said that the side effects i might get are: get drunk quicker on a smaller amount of alcohol or the effects of the depression maybe more noticable.
but as others have said it does say you shouldnt drink at all on them.
when i have drunk on the ADs i am on now i just felt sick after like 2 sips of wine spritzer so i gave up!
xx
this pic is so i can always remember jen who was my l'il sock monkey friend who has left ryl and i miss her!!!
I've been on fluoxetine for about three weeks and I've only drunk once during that time. I got drunk very quickly and ended up crying so much I had to be taken home. I've decided to give up alcohol lol.

I think it's a common SSRI side effect, to either get drunk quicker and/or to get banging hangovers on next to nothing. But it's one of those things that are different for everyone. I drank on citalopram and never had a problem apart from my tolerance was a teeny bit lower (which if anything for me was a good thing, haha) but I know others that would throw up after one glass of wine so. Be careful.
Wake me up before I change again
Remind me the story that I won't get insane
Tell me why it's always the same
Explain me the reason why I'm so much in pain.
I used to be able to drink **** loads when on Venlafaxine (XL) but both times on Fluoxetine (back on it now), I have found that my tolerance is much lower and I can feel sick quite quickly. it will be different for everybody but what is not different is that alcohol is a depressant and therefore you may not feel the benefits of the AD. Yes, I am being a hypocrite here.
"Everything is possible through Christ, who gives me strength". Phillipians 4:13
Years ago I asked my doctor about this (for another SSRI) and he said although the manufacturers advise no alcohol it's OK to drink in moderation (i.e not like anti-biotics). But to be very careful until I had worked out what the effects were for me personally.
I drink very occasionally now - like one night in a couple of weeks - It affects me a lot more than it used to + if I get drunk I get bad hangovers. But I'm not sure if that's my meds (lamotrigine and citalopram) or just age + not beign so used to it.
