My appointment with the Nurse

I saw my CPN today (community psychiatric nurse), and she told me i was leaning towards the schizophrenia side than the psychotic depression. She thinks its more likely that i am a schizophrenic than severely depressed. Im so scared to be given that label. I have an appointment with the Consultant Psychiatrist at the end of this month, and I may be diagnosed then.
I dont know how much longer i can do this. I feel frightened.

The Consultant Psych. will diagnose you properly. A CPN, as far as I am aware, cannot formally diagnose.

CPN's cannot diagnose and she was probably trying to be helpful in discussing what she thinks your problems are. I don't think it it matters what our diagnoses are anyway, so long as we strive for recovery and support each with understanding. I don't think labelling is always that useful. Please try not to worry having a diagnosis, its just so the doctors can justify putting you on the right medications.

Don't panic. Only a doctor can diagnose you. Nurses tend to make suggestions like this that can really throw you and in my experience they rarely follow these suggestions through. Maybe ring up your doctor and check it out iwth him, just to get some reassurance.
