I am currently:
Triggering (OD) - May be triggering, therapy and SI talk, general

DISCLAIMER: the trigger reads as OD, but I meant SI trigger. SORRY!!!

So, just a few weeks ago I began therapy for SI and SA. I know that legally a therapist cannot not break confidentiality unless you are a danger to yourself/others or report sexual/physical abuse. My question is, do they consider SI as a 'danger to oneself' ?

Basically I want to know if she asks me if I have self injured, and I say yes and she asks to see my arms, will she have to notify my parents or whomever she feels necessary?

Thank you!

BTW, I'm 17 YO from the US (AZ more specifically)

She will most likely notify your parents.

SI is automatic grounds for breaking confidentiality when you are under 18. I live in the US and got this information first hand from a counselor. However I heard of people saying their parents werent notified, but it is likely that they will notify your parents.

if your parents don't know because you weren't orginally put in therapy because of SI, in the US, your therapist legally has to tell you parents until you're 18. i guess it's possible that s/he personally wouldn't, but i'm not sure i would count on that.

good luck with whatever you decide!

I guess it depends on the therapists. As for mine, he did not ask to see my scars (a huge relief) or tell anyone about it. He is more focused in coaching me finding alternate ways to deal with stress and depression.
