Does anyone know of anyone private residential treatment centres in the UK for people who self-harm and accepts adolescents?
I wouldn't have even considered this but I've had it mentioned to me twice in the last week- once by my head of year and also by a nurse who treated me in hospital with some of my cuts.
At the moment i'm cutting at least once a day to the point where i would be getting stitches every time if i went to the hospital and i'm finally beginning to accept (i think) that this isn't normal and i need to get this back under control.
I don't know whether putting me somewhere i'd find it more difficult to cut would help me and i've always though if i was that bad, CAMHs would have put me somewhere like that. I told that to the nurse and she pointed out that i don't show the people i see (i showed my therapist once after a LOT or persuaision and they wernt as bad as they are now) so they don't really know how out of control its gotten. She also said it was one of the most extreme cases she'd seen which triggered me a lot so i really don't know.
If i mentioned this to someone would they think i was making a massive fuss about nothing? Am i making a fuss about nothing? Should i look into it?
i really don't know.

Reason: ...
It doesn't seem very common that there are places that deal exclusively with self harm. However, there are numerous private clinics for mental health problems that have adolescent units and usually, as far as i know, they can build a program to meet your specific needs, which would currently be your self harm.
Some places don't always accept self harmers though, it depends what the staff there are trained to work with.
I think the best thing to do would be to look up 'private psychiatric hospitals' on google and look through what comes up. I tried it and it looks like there are lots of places. Then you can give them a call and find out how they could help you.
I dont think you're making a fuss about nothing. If you really feel that you need this and are ready to work at it then i think it's a good idea. Also, if th nurse told you that your self harming is that bad then she is probably right.
It's really good that you want to get help for it though and you're very lucky if you are able to go private. Good luck in finding something that's right for you.

I really dont know if this is a good idea or not.
I'm in DBT therapy at the moment and some of my behavious have decreased but the SI is just getting 'worse'. Should i just carry on and hope it gets better? Am i just not working hard enough? i dont think i even want to stop. Its mine. no one can take it from me they just wish they could do this. im in control.
I find school hard, i cant concentrate, i hardly go because i cant find the motivation to make myself do anything (i'm just a lazy ****), I only see my girlfriend and when i'm around other people i feel so useless. They dont even like me.
I spend all my time obsessing about cutting and overdosing (even though i havnt OD's in 5 weeks. hooray. pathetic.) i still feel like i'm just waiting until i can really go for it, really do some damage.
Part of me knows it would be better for me to be somewhere where itd be harder to cut and if i did, i could get them looked at instead of permenantly being on antibiotics. But surely if i was that bad THEY WOULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING?
Im just moaning.
have you talked to your therapist about your self harm getting worse?
well done with the 5 weeks btw, its not pathetic, it shows deep down you're a strong person
i think you probably know whats best for you cus you're the one living your life and you know how things affect you and whats really going on in your head. so id say if you want to go somewhere to keep you safe for a bit then look for places and see how they can help
xx
Thanks for replying :)
Yep, my therapist knows it's gotten more frequent and more severe but i would feel really stupid suggesting suggesting something like this to her at the moment.
I'm going to my doctors on friday to have a chat about it and if she thinks that it might be an idea, i'll mention it to my therapist.
I dont know- Am i being really stupid?
I dont want to go into a hospital but i'm starting to think that it might be the only thing that could help- findng it more difficult to be able to. I really dont know. I can go private 'cus my dads got it for recurring health problems so i can get it free under his account thing. I'm 16.
I went to The Priory In Ticehurst - which is like east sussex area. They have a adolescent unit there. They accept self harmers, especially if the self harm is putting your life at risk. Plus with the added suicidal thoughts.
It's difficult for therapists and the CAMHS people to know if/when hospilization would be appropriate. Your best bet is to try and tell your therapist what it's like for you at your worst. Obviously being in hospital is a big change to everyday life, but it can help but should technically be only used as a last resort - I can't judge as for your situation it may be best. You have to realise that the staff at an inpatient hospital will do everything they can to stop you self harming, whether or not you want them to, if they see you at risk then they HAVE to intervene immediately even if you think you need that release etc at that point.
But i really suggest you tell your therapists etc what its like for you at your worst.
Good luck x

How can I feel so alone with so many people around me?
I was in CAMHS services and the NHS funded me to be in a private psychiatric clinic that acceped adolesents that self harm also with other mental health problems. I thought that was quite good for the NHS to do that because they say NHS hopspitals aren't at all nice for young people to be in. They have loooooads of therapy (CBT/DBT/PE/ART THERAPY/RELAXATION) and the staff are always there to talk to.
The Cardinal Clinic in Windsor, they specialise in self-harm, depressive disorders, eating disorders etc... They also have a psychiatrist specailly 4 adolescents...I go there, it is excellent, they are thinking of keeping me in there for a month...but I'm not sure...(they have a swimming pool) tehe
pm me anytime.
Thanks for all your replies :)
I went to my GP on Friday- going to talk to my therapist on Tuesday about it, get her opinion and all that jazz and if she thinks its a good idea, i'm giving the GP the go ahead to refer me so i'm just waiting to see what happens now really.
Cheers for the links aswell- i've taken a look. They look more like hotels than hospitals :S creepy!

its great your taking these steps hunny.
" my precious, precious child, I love you and I would never, never leave you during your times of trials and suffering. When you see only one set of footprints it was then that I carried you" you were carried out of are lifes into the next and when its my time to leave this life I know i will be carried into the next life with you.
I wish i had my world complete again.

So i got up the courage to go to the GP and everything and it was all seeming quite possible and my mum has just read the small print on the private insurance and i'd have had to be symptom free for two years before the contract was taken out and we got it in May. I feel so confused. I was finally trying to make positive steps. Oh well, i'll just sit here and self destruct.
