Triggering (SI) - I'm slipping and i dont know where else to turn

Hey guys...

So i dont think i have posted a new thread asking for support in a while...i have applied to other ppl's posts but lately i havent been so strong. I am almost 3 weeks free of cutting....but im soooo tempted right now. Like the thing that was keeping me from cutting was just keeping myself preoccupied and busy. Like I have 3 jobs, and am just constantly distracting myself. BUt last week i went for a run and i rolled my ankle and i sprained my ankle and knee...so no im not able to go to work for like a week, and i have to just rest and ice my leg...and im soooo bored and all i want to do is cut...b/c i cant think of anything else. LIke i knew i needed to stop b/c the past couple of months i have gotten really dangerous with my cutting to the point where i was jeapordizing my life. I had hit 4 arteries, 2 tendons, had 4 blood transfusions and 5 surgeries. And i dont want to die but i just kept upping the anti to get that same "high" that i get from cutting. SO like i know my life is on the line when i cut b/c i dont have the self control to stop when i know im going to deep, but i just feel soooo high when i do it...and im addicted...and it sjust soooo hard to stop...and now that im bored out of my mind and stressing about finacial worreis and work and stuff im just really tempted to cut...and i dont know what to do.....it will be 3 weeks on this wednesday and that will be the longest ive gone if i dont do it tonite..b.ut it is just sooo hard to get away from my temptation....anyways...I have to go ice my leg again...and rest it...so i will let you guys go...but thatnks for all of your support....

hugz,
Tiff

Hi, Tiff. :)

Well done for going three weeks; it's a fantastic acheivemnt and you should be so, so proud. Having three jobs must serve as an excellent distraction, and I'm sorry that your injury prevents you from doing them. Try looking at it this way, though - you might feel like you need to cut right now, because you have nothing else to occupy yourself with, but those three weeks proved that you don't need to cut. Sure, you were occupying yourself most of the time, but if you had *needed* to cut, then you would have done - just because you're not going to work right now, it doesn't mean that you need to give into the urges.

If you've done that much damage to yourself, it's good that you realise that it needs to stop. If you feel like you're going to cut, keep reminding yourself of the fact that you've already put your body through so much - why do any more damage? I know the "high" that comes from self harm can seem extremely addictive but, like any addiction, you can overcome it. Believe in yourself. :)

There are so many things you can do to distract yourself. First and foremost, make sure you keep yourself away from anything that could harm you. Try listening to music, posting on RYL, playing games online, reading?

I hope your leg gets better soon. Stay safe and post as much as you need.

Well done on three weeks - you should be really proud of yourself =). It is really difficult to stop and it is addictive, but you've proved that you can focus your mind on other things. Try to take this one step at a time and just concentrate on getting through each day. It's understandable that you're thinking about it more right now because you're not as busy, but there are still things you can do at home to stay busy - reading, writing, watching tv, going on the internet. Try to have as much company as possible too, because that will stop you from feeling isolated and I think you're much less likely to hurt yourself if you're with other people. It's great that you're trying to stop, it won't be easy, but it will be worth it in the end, and you will reach a place where things are ok.
Take care
xxx
