A Question

I thought this forum was the most appropriate place to post this because its about studying. In the past couple of days ive been seriously considering going to uni and doing Adult VCE http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vcaa/vce/index.html ( Melbourne people/vets will know what i'm talking about) and because its been quite a long time since i was at school, i'm not sure if i have the confidence to be able to do/cope with the work load/s. Is there anyone else that has done or thought about doing such a thing? How did you cope with doing it? (it's called GCSE or something in england right? would you do it if you were going to be a mature aged student?) I would like a few feedback before i actually decide please?

Well Andrea, do you want to return to study? If so, why?

I see no harm in going back to school, certainly to complete VCE. If the workload is too much, you could do a reduced work-load (like I did) which gives you more time to yourself & your homework.

I *sorta* went back and did mine and was a bit nervous about being with people younger & that I didn't know, but, in the end I was there to study and it didn't faze me too much, and I ended up making friends.

I say, give it a shot if you want to!

I think it would help me to get a stable job and because i left in year 10, i never did VCE.

Hey Andrea,
I have always had MUCH respect for people who are able to return to study such as adult VCE after a long time. I think it's such a great and brave move.
Andrea have you thought about....instead of VCE....taking a TAFE course?
You can do things like disibility care, dog grooming, fitness, naturopathy, floristry.
The reason i say this is because i have a VCE certificate and know how hard it is to find work!!!! However, if you do a tafe course like these you can get a qualification which makes you more elagable for work b/c it is more of a niche.
Anyways, i duno what i'm saying cus i'm so tired LOL!

As you are an adult look for courses specifically designed for adults. I went back to college at 18 and found it really difficult being with 16 year olds as i'd spent a long time in an adult psyc ward mixing with adults so found younger people a bit hard to relate to.

If you want to return to studying though, go for it. Just find a course you want to do. It doesnt have to lead you anywhere. you could just do it for interest.

I don't know where you live, but i am familiar with Boxhill tafe, Homesglen tafe, Swinburn tafe, Chisholm tafe.
When you return to study, you usually do it through a tafe.
You know, i wouldn't stress about the work load at all....because just think about it, if you're doing nothing now, and do even ONE subject this year, then you're one subject ahead of what you were! You don't have to ace it in just a year or two, it could be a gradual thing. Also....i think study is great....and you're smart and mature....and most of all i know this from just having finished my VCE, if you think the right way about your achievements it can make you feel SO GOOD, and you get a lot of confidence.

There's no TAFE's around here anymore only uni's and it would be Victoria University and the closet one is Footscray. Thanks Kat, you're amazing.

Does vic uni have a tafe?
I know you can do stuff like youth work at VU....hmmm

I say go for it. I'm seriously considering going back ino some kind of learning program and I left college ten years ago. Do your research and bite the bullet! You never know if you don't try! Good luck xx
