Triggering (Substance Abuse) - A little bit of help?

Oh geezzz. I've had a little slip up but nothing totally triggering to the point of me wanting to start going backwards. I've just been having cravings like crazy. I just need something to get my mind off of it. It's really bad at night when I have nothing to do. I've tried everything, calling someone, getting on the computer but I can only re-do my myspace page so many times before it get's old. I had my little slip up, I took a little bit of night quill because I was having problems sleeping and all that. I took some and it honestly made me remember what I was missing and all the alarm bells start going off. Anyone have any alternatives? Hugs are always great as well.

I'm wide awake...

3.19.2011- Best day
1.30.2010-You left me.
8.28.2008-Fly High.

You're aware that this reminded you of how things were, and given you urges, and that shows that you really want to stay clean (or sober) and recovering. Just remember that this is what you really want, and its clear.

There are people out there to help you, maybe some who understand what you're going through. I know I keep suggesting it on here, but that's only because I feel it would really help: Narcotics Anonymous (or Alcoholics Anonymous). Whether you want to phone them, attend a meeting or just find some literature, its up to you.

Just you keep doing everything you possibly can to stay recovering, whether you have to make a dozen myspace pages and rearrange the profiles! Keep covering different options, whether you're writing things down, talking to someone, distracting yourself, exercising (such as short walk), relaxing (warm bath, meditation, prayer)...whatever works for you, stick with it.

Take care of yourself

I agree with lostdoll about going to AA or NA. I've been sober in AA for 13 years. It isn't easy but it helps.

You might consider getting rid of anything that you can that has alcohol in it. I get cough syrup that doesn't have alcohol. I gargle with warm salt water. That way i don't get the taste or anything again.

Distractions are awesome. I do a lot of crocheting and embroidery and every stitch I make is another moment away from the alcohol.

Hope this helps.

My husband is my best friend.

In forgiving others, we are not exonerating them. They may not deserve exoneration. Rather, in forgiving others we are giving up our anger over the fact that what happened is not what "should" have happened or that our life is not the way it "should" have been.
