Hi Frankie .... and welcome back to RYL!
About your problems logging in as 'canyousayme' - are you aware that since we moved to this new version of RYL, that everyone had to reregister their accounts, so any old username and password from the previous version of RYL wont work?
Maybe that's why you are having trouble logging in ... just a suggestion, but maybe its nice to have a fresh start with a brand new username too!
ok - now back to your post ....
I'm sorry that you are feeling those urges to SI again, but from what I read in your post, it seems as though you were able to stop SIing for a while .... how did you manage that? And did something happen to cause those urges to return again, like added stress in your life, or a major life change?
I believe that understanding why we feel the way we do, especially in the case of a sudden emotional change, can often help us to sort out a plan of action to get back in control of our lives.
From the sounds of your post, it seems as if you are a little ambivalent about recovery from these problems right now .... and that's okay. But something that stood out to me from your post, is that you mentioned drinking alcohol ... and with alcohol being a depressant, I am concerned that you will be getting increasingly more depressed and despondant about your life, and that this wont put you in the best frame of mind in order to want recovery from your problems, and then actively seek it. Maybe something to consider anyway.
As for your impression about getting help for your problems as feeling very patronising, I am assuming that you are referring to professional help, and yes - I have often felt patronised by the mental health professionals that were employed to help me with my problems .... especially male psychiatrists!
But not every health professional is like that - its like with any profession, there are people who are good and not so good at their jobs, and I've found that I have to shop around for someone that I really click with and feel respected by when I am looking for a professional to help me deal with some of my problems. I have been lucky to find a great psychologist who I've been seeing for 4 years now. There are good people out there who wont patronise you .... but sometimes you may need to go through a few bad eggs before you find a good one.
Once again .... welcome back to RYL, and I look forward to seeing you around this website!
