Triggering (SI) - Backpeddling - advice needed =/

Hi

My life's gone downhill lately, I started to SI again after 2 years free and I was so busy worrying and feeling bad about that that I didnt realise that at the same time I'm developing a little bit of an alcohol problem. I know it doesn't sound like a huge deal but I've got a horribly addictive personality and I've already got quite a few unhealthy coping mechanisms that are becoming quite serious - I don't want to add alcohol abuse and maybe one day drugs to that! But I don't feel that I can stop now - I need to drink to be able to go to college, otherwise I just turn up ten minutes late, can't concentrate and then get bored and restless and go home after my first lesson.. I'm in the middle of my A levels now and it is REALLY important that I'm at my best.. it's not the time to start trying to improve myself and I've stopped beating myself up over SI for this period. But I'm not sure it's worth turning a want for alcohol into a reliance on it.. if I don't pass my A levels though, mum'll make me drop out of college (I flunked my ASs for 'emotional reasons') and I'll have to get a job and that will be it for university.. and so I'll drink.

Any advice welcomed on how to backtrack on this. I've seen how easily I form addictions and I'm trying to be ultra-careful about any habit-forming..

Sorry this is a bit incoherent. Oh the other thing is, I didn't drink yesterday, and so because I felt really wound up and restless, I didnt sleep last night, until 8 in the morning.

thanks for reading this

Where do you turn when the night turns to singing
such sweet melodies and you flash your fin
then it's back to the depths where I cannot see you
but I built these towers just to honour you.....

Please ease off the alcohol. After a few days you will be able to sleep and you will be able to concentrate. Be proactive about being hydrated, it will make you feel better. Ease off caffeine/coffee/tea/cola too. If you have caffeine, then have last coffee/tea/cola at lunch so it can be out of your system by bed time.
That is my experience. I drink diet cola to wake up, have my last one of the day by 2:00 in the afternoon.
Get into regular habits of going to bed and getting up too. Your body will learn to sleep at regular going to bed time in a few days.
You may have tough few days but you will be better for it in the end I think.
Hugs!

In forgiving others, we are not exonerating them. They may not deserve exoneration. Rather, in forgiving others we are giving up our anger over the fact that what happened is not what "should" have happened or that our life is not the way it "should" have been.
