Self Harm Reading

Hi,

Since its the summer and l've not got any *real* work for the next 3 months, l was browsing amazon looking for some books to read.
I bought a few for my courses and then decided that l should get some for enjoyment.

I came across a few self harm books like Caroline Kettlewell 'skin game: a memoir'

and Carolyn Smiths 'Cutting it out: A journey through psychotherapy and Self Harm'.

And although these books looked quite good from the reviews, l was looking for something l could connect with. Has anyone read any books that talk about Self Harm from a male perspective, rather than a females?

I was doing that the other day. I havent found any books from a male P.O.V but i have read "Bloodletting", which is a memoir of a self-harmer. I personally thought it was really really good, it has had mixed reviews though. Its really good because it doesnt just tackle self-harm, but depression aswell. Very triggering though

as before I have said I haven't read these books and also I haven't read any books about self harm from a male perspective. A Bright Red Scream though not really fiction does have some stories about males in it but it can also be triggering at times. A harder book to read as it has a lot of theory and sometimes stories can trigger in many different ways.

I have also read Bloodletting; Red Tears; Cut; Prozac Nation and The Luckiest Girl in the World

Plus some other books which like Prozac Nation touch on self harm etc. While you are looking on amazon look at lists of books people have made and you might find some more self harm books.

I don't know if this is any help at all!

Ive just started reading 'secret scars' that i found on Amazon and its a kind of self help book but its really good and helps alot with self harming issues.xxx

i cant really think of any book that deals with a male self harmer, although im sure there is one out there. i probably know of one but just cant think of it.
but ive read skin game and its a good book, worth a read.

I can't remember the name of it... but it's about a guy who started self-harming while he was in prison. he's now a youth worker. it was a really really good book and if I could remember then name i'd buy it. it's a melbourne guy. I'll have a look around and i'll see if i can find the name.

I'm looking for a book that deals with self harm from a MALE perspective, looks a good book, but l dont think its something l'd want to read, its hard to relate.

Kat's Fall by Shelley Hrdlitschka. The main character is a teenage boy who cuts himself. The story seemed kind of sensational at times, and it's probably less informative than the books you mentioned (although I haven't read either of them), but I really liked it.

Bloodletting by Victoria Leatham is very good, as others have said.
I'd definitely recommend it; it's a bit triggering, though.
