hey,
My cousin is on them, hes been taking them for a couple of years now and for the first couple of weeks he had some side affects but since then hes had no trouble with them. in the beginning they seemed to have a positive affect but im not really sure there doing much for him now though.
Everyone reacts differently to medications though, ive been on a couple of different antidepressants and the side affects never went the entire time i was on them and personally i think they made me worse mentally as well as physically so took myself of them but ive never had citalopram so i dont really know personally what kind of affect they really have just what ive seen in someone else.
Im not sure if that was much help or not though but i hope you feel there helping you.

I've just been prescribed citalopram last week and am still suffering the side effects. I never get side effects from meds so I'm going to assume that means they're working. So far they've made me anxious, aggressive, exhausted and like tweety pie really spacey. I keep zoning out at random intervals.
If you do get any side effects don't freak out, and keep going with it.
Luck!

apparently citolopram has the least side effects..apparently.
was on them for 6 months and have been off them for about 2 to 3 weeks.
hope they work for you.

Yeah, Citalopram and Escitalopram are supposed to have the mildest side effects. It's prescribed quite often and that's fine. My Dad is on them and they help. As for me, I didn't get on well with them and now I'm on Duloxetine, which agrees with me much more.
One thing I will say: if you don't notice any benefits and especially if it's making things worse for the love of God ask to be taken off them. I learnt the hard way. You have a right to be picky when it comes to your medication so don't just accept the first thing they give you if it's not working. Work with your prescribing doctor and be honest as to how you're feeling. That'll hopefully lead to a good outcome and the right choice of medication.
