Happy boxes

What happened to the happy boxes that used to be in the RYL shop?

You're a star the way you are
You know you're not fooling anyone, no
You got the eyes of an angel
Don't try to change, yeah
Everybody's got their scars
Nevermind how ugly they are
No matter what they tell you
You're beautiful the way you are
"You shouldn't have to pay for your love with your bones and your flesh"

The shop which sold happy boxes was different to the RYL Shop we have at the moment, I think. I have a feeling it was fundamentally run by someone else, and it was all American-based & whatnot.

Honestly, though, don't quote me on that.

I guess if there's a big enough demand for them, they could be reintroduced in some way perhaps..?
You can always attempt at making your own, or looking round for one in the shops. :)

xx

I see it in your eyes
You'll be alright

HArley's still away i think so not much will/can happen but because the shop hasn't been up that long, some of the things are still missing.

Happy boxes were a concept from the old RYL.

Basically it was a box you put lots of things that made you happy in... ticket stubs from a great night out, photos, a little teddy - anything. You could then bring that out and make yourself smile when you needed a lift.

RYL offered some Happy Boxes for a while, but like all the Cafepress (the company which does it) stuff, the sales were REALLY low so it was never even worth me checking the stats to see if any sales had come through.

Always a little surprising, but the company is outsourced (they make custom t-shirts etc for thousands of companies and sites) so maybe people wanted to order direct.

If you still want a Happy Box, or want to take a look, the link is still available if you do a Google search for :

RYL cafepress

Indeed a google search for RYL happy box would have got you what you needed :)

Hope that helps!

Got this text off an old RYL page :

Creating a 'Happy Box'

A happy box is a simple idea which can become a useful tool in destroying the urge to self injure. It works on the premiss that having a collection of things that make the individual happy or act as a reminder of better times can both reduce the immediate urge to SI and act as an aid in stopping using SI all together.

It has become apparent that many who self injure keep a box containing 'tools' and destructive objects. This acts as a major obstacle in trying to successfully stop as when the urge to self injure presents itself, it is this self destructive tool kit which is often the first thing to hand and therefore becomes the individuals first and apparently only option.

The 'happy box' uses this idea to it's advantage. This becomes the first thing available and hopefully removes the idea that self injury is the only option.

Suggestions for things to include:

-Photographs- These could be of loved ones, memorable times or even just random pieces.

-Ticket stubs-from gigs, concerts, movies, play's etc-whatever the interest these act as a reminder of the things that are enjoyed

-A collection of inspirational quotes, poetry or lyrics.

The list is endless, each individual will have different things that make them happy, the trick is to find things that are helpful in any positive way and include them. The collection may begin slowly and with a little amount of things included but in time it will grow. This is one of the idea's many positive outcomes. The fuller the box becomes of objects which both symbolize and induce happiness hopefully the more the individual realizes that their life is full of happy things.

Hope that's of interest :)
