Triggering (SI) - Nearly a year Self Harm Free

I am 3 days away from a year of not self harming. Am I still fighting the urge the answer it YES!

Inside I have been waiting for this aniversary. Some weird thoughts are, that once I reach this target, I will go back to cutting.

Please please can I have some wise words from all of you. You are all wonderful with words and hopefully they can help me.

First of all Congratulations on being nearly a year free! That truely is amazing. :hugs: I know what you mean about the urges. For some people they go almost straight away and for others they don't ever completely disappear or if they do they come back at times of stress etc. All I know is that for me at least then most of the time they have at least become easier to handle.

It is natural for them to come back near your 1 year anniversary because you will be thinking about cutting (or rather how you have not cut!).

I am sorry I cannot be very helpful. When the urges come the only thing you can really do is try and distract yourself. That might be dancing, playing loud music, chatting rubbish to friends or even chilling on here. Just think- you are 362 days clear and that is wicked!

I know how its been for you for the last while and i wish i could something to help you, but im always here to talk, always.
i know the urges are terrible but you have come such a long way and i think yuou would be so angry with yourself if you gave in. I still think you need the meds adjusted somewhat, i hope you can get in soon to talk about this and get back with a regular couns. to help you out.
You have fought so very bravely...YOU are a star hunni, you truly are!

wow congratulations!! you must be such a strong person and you have made such an effort - don't let it go to waste. WHEN (not if) you make it to a year, you can set a new goal like 18 mos or 2 years or 5 years.
