Mirtazapine

I've just been put on this as Citalopram was doing me more harm than good after 6 weeks. I've looked it up on the internet and the only things I can find about it say that it's terrible to be on in terms of side effects etc.
Has anyone been on it? If so, what are your experiences of it?
I came off Citalopram because it was stopping me from sleeping and eating and making my mood worse in some cases (increasing SI incidents etc.).
I'm hoping this will work. Any advice or info would be much appreciated. Thanks. x

hey,
I was on it recently, but stopped it after a few weeks as it made me feel a lot worse. Everyone is different though and it might do you good - I hope it does :)
I think it might have been bad for me as I'm under 18 and it's not *really* supposed to be pescribed to under 18's. If you read the side effects you'll probably gather what happened.
Best of luck, as I say I hope it helps :)
PM me if you have any questions I'll try and answer,
take care xxx

No side effects with me, and I've been on it 2 years and a couple of months...

You've got bear in mind that any meds take time to take to your body and start to work properly. I mean you've only been on it for 6 weeks. I don't know it's just a thought.
I've been on it for about 3 months now and seems to be working.
The only side effect for me was that it gave me the munchies real ad for the 1st couple of weeks but that seems to have settled down now.
Like 'iwanttobreakfree' said it's not usualy prescribed to under 18's but they prescribed it to me anyway.
Hope this helps.
Take care .xx

I'm in the same situation as you. I was on Citalopram, but that made me even more suicidal and had terrible mood-swings.
I'm being put on Mirtazapine because, my psych says, it helps to control emotions and sleep. Basically I think it just mellows you out.
I looked up side effects and I thought they sounded a bit better than Citalopram. Except that apparently it causes an increased appetite and therefore weight gain.
