Couple of questions about the rules / points system...

What counts as religious talk? Is it not allowed to say God bless? What about if the topic is say about christians who self harm? If someone posts 9 pieces of scripture do they get a 24hours ban?

And what about the speaking another language? If you wanted to tell someone you love them in a different language ... which is quite romantic in my opinion... eg... (je t'aime, dw i'n dy garu di) would you also get a ban?

Also How do you know if someon is lying? you cant prove it!

Religious talk becomes a problem when people push religion on other people or are intolerant of religions. Saying something like "Become Christian, God will save you from SH!" is against the rules, but I don't think that saying "god bless" at the end of a post would be.

As for speaking in another language the issue there is that if you are saying something that you only want certain people to understand it becomes elitist and should be in a PM not on a public board. It's upsetting for people when they can't understand what other members are saying. This does not mean though that you can't post asking for help with your language homework or such.

Lying, we can now tell if mutiple accounts are being used by the same person. So if there appears to be a problem there are ways to check if people are being truthful or not.

Yes, basically just re-iterating what AD said but i jsut wanted to add that i think the rule is that one line of a foreign language is fine. It is just to stop members feeling left out if they can't understand the language.

Well I am going to reiterate what the others have said here.

The religion rule 'forbids' "Comments that overly push any relious belief, or that could be offensive to others"

This does not prevent all posting about religion, and certainly doesn't get as petty the God Bless thing. Light discussion regarding religion and SI etc is fine - what is bad, for both RYL and the thread starter are posts trying to push their relgion on others, as that always ends up in a lot of hostility.

The language thing is there to revent people from using RYL in other languages, not to prevent english people from using the odd phrase. We wouldn't want messages being passed between two members in another language that english because it leaves people out, and is also not Moderatable. One sentence is fine - extend blocks, especially if they are used to deliberately mask something that would otherwise break the rules is what we are looking out for with this one.


May I just stress how hard it is to cross the line with most of these rules. Never will a Mod punish a member for a one off accidental slip up. What we care about are members who go out of there way to deliberately say or do things that will hurt others. Thus members who care about those around them and who stay within reasonable limits of kindness and behaviour will never need to worry about any of these.
