Lately I've been feeling trapped, lonely, and depressed. I know what I have to do to get out of my current situation, but it just seems like such a huge task that thinking about it is crushing me. I'm on Incapacity Benefit because I'm sick, and I've been on it for a long time now (I'm 20 and have been on it for about two years). I've tried jobs before that, and never had much success (I give up on things very easily), but I'm so tired of the utter lack of substance in my life that I really want to get out there and work. This seems like such a mammoth task at the moment though.
I'm worried that I'll just end up quitting again, or that my illness will affect my ability to work. But I really just need to get out of this house and start doing something with my life. I've tried college courses, home courses, and volunteer work, but I just end up quitting those too.
The difference now is that I have a goal in sight. I have a few friends in the USA that I would lovelovelove to visit, but with my current financial and home situation, I couldn't possibly do it. I know I'd still need to save up for it to be a possibility even with a job, but at least I'd feel like I was doing something towards it instead of sitting online all the time daydreaming about everything.
I guess my post here, despite being rantish, is asking for support and encouragement towards my goal. If you feel you can offer that, then I thank you.
I think it's great that you've found something you want to aim at and decided you want to make more of your life, that's a really positive step!
When it comes to finding a job it helps to know what skills you have- what are you best at and what do you enjoy doing? Even if you haven't found something that suits you yet, it doesn't mean you never will. If you find it hard to stick at things, it could be you give up a little too soon. Sometimes I find when I first start something it takes a while to get used to it and start enjoying it; the first stages can be a struggle. Maybe you need to give things a bit more of a chance before you quit?
I really hope things work out well for you, I'm sure you'll be able to make it to your goal. Good luck with everything and well done!
Do it!! :) Now that you have a goal, it will hopefully be easier for you to stick with it. Try and find something you don't hate doing. It's usually hard to find something you want to do, so something neutral is great. Write down your goal and stay focused. You can do it! :)
Btw, i realise you are only sat in the living room downstairs and i could come downstairs and actually talk to you about it but...where's the fun in that?

There's no fun in it at all, Katie. Not unless you bring me a present.
Thank you all for your replies! I've been looking a little, and I've found an advert for bar staff at a pretty decent pub in town, so I'm calling about it tomorrow.
good luck darling!
start slow though! one step at a time, maybe start with a part time job? or maybe an evening course/voluntary work. im sure when you see your self getting closer to your goal that will motivate itself!!
take care

I shall :) The job I found last night is part-time, so I'm hopeful that I'll get it.
