BPD relapse....please help

Brief history...

At 17, I was diagnosed (whilst spending a year and a half at adolescent camhs unit) with Borderline PD. Did dbt, groups, 1 2 1 therapy, transfered to adult services, had a few years where things were incredibly borderline and horrible to live through but my symptoms eased so much that I was discharged at 22 and went on to do quite well in work, bit mood swingy and I had no friends or relationships (I refused to get attached cos I was too scared) but I was not really suffering from bpd. Or...I was but it was managable.

I dont want to go too much into it but is it possible to relapse? but it was like all my bpd symptoms came back but worse. back with adult services, spent time away from home, on quietiapine, have lost all ive gained. why. why. why.

Can you be relevely symptom free to then having a full blown relapse?

In short, yes, it’s possible. I’ve worked with people who have been several years out of services but then life stressors get too much, or something just switches and they just can’t cope and then spiralise. I can only imagine that you’re in an awful lot of pain right now and things feel an utter mess! I’m sure people have told you that you’ve gotten through it before etc etc and whilst that may be difficult to hear or even invalidating, there is an element of truth to that. And just because it ended in IP last time doesn’t mean it will now- you are older and wiser. AS are probably in the best place to either offer you the support you need or to refer you to it.

It sounds like it’s def about time that things started to improve. Doesn’t mean it will all be plain sailing but hopefully this is the beginning of things improving for you. Do you have any of your dbt workbooks or anything that you could refer back to for tips and skills to help you manage?

No, I don't have anything any longer. This was over ten years ago. I am really struggling with this relapse....
