Sleep hallucinations

I woke up last night absolutely convinced that there was a white and black cat in my bedroom. Now I had shut out all my cats out of the bedroom and also I don't own a white and black cat. I know that I have hallucinationed a rat in my flat before. Is it anything to worry about or is it part of schizophrenia? Is it a sign that I am getting ill?

My cpn is coming next week so should I mention it to her?

It sounds like a hypnopompic hallucination, which most people will experience at some point or another and is usually unrelated to psychotic illness, although can occur more often in those with a mental health condition. I think if you are not experiencing any other symptoms then it's nothing to worry about. If you are concerned though and it would set your mind at ease, then speak to your CPN.

Thanks Pomegranate. I personally don't think that I am getting unwell as I have been having regular depots.

Could it be possible that another cat got into your house and you got all of your cats out but not being aware of another, left one behind?

Also, when you saw it what did you do?

I get hallucinations after sleep, during the phase between sleep and wakefulness, I also suffer some kind of mini fits during my sleep, usually worse when I'm stressed, I don't think their anything to worry about, although it's something you could discuss with either you're GP or you're CPN, if it's bothering you.

I don't think any of these have anything to do with Schizophrenia, I don't have Schizophrenia, I think everyone experiences something like this at some time in their lives, especially when under intense stress & pressure.

Diesel I don't think so. My cats are indoor only and don't have a cat flap. I just went back to sleep when I saw the cat and it wasn't there when I got up so I know it was a hallucination.

Thanks for that Stumpy.
