Swapping mirtazapine for trazodone

hi
I'm currently swapping from mirtazapine to trazodone. I've been on mirtazapine for about six months now and although it has slightly improved my mood it has in a way made it worse because of the weight gain side effect.
After much persuasion my dr has now decided to switch me into trazodone but I've never been in it before and don't know anyone who has. I take my first dose tonight and I'm worried about taking it. What are other peoples experiences of trazodone? I know that not everyone has the same reactions to meds but I think it will help to know how others have found it.
Thanks

I found trazadone very sedating (moreso than mirtazapine), though I am very sensitive to sedating medications. Maybe make sure you take it after you've finished all your plans for the day!

Hope you find it helpful :)

I'm on trazodone. Didn't really have any side effects for. Me. It does help me to sleep

So I took it at my 8:00pm meds and so far it's okay I guess. I've lost my sense of co ordination a bit and my body feels really heavy when I get out of bed but other than that I'm feeling okay so I can put up with this. And no munchies off it like I would have off the mirtazapine by now which Im pleased about because that was the side effect I hated the most.

Thank you all so much for the replies it made it easier for me to take it as I'm very reluctant to take new meds!

Good luck with it. I take it and find it really helpful for depression with no real side effects, so it's not always sedating for people.

I switched from mirtazapine to trazodone about 7 years ago. I found mirtazapine and trazodone to be about the same in terms of sedation. I take my night meds when I want to go to bed because if I take them and try to stay awake then after about 15 minutes I feel heavy and I get waves of intense sedation. So it's better to take trazodone and head straight to bed.

I didn't get any side effects that I remember. It has helped my anxiety by taking the edge off it (and then my psych added in Pregabalin to take away the rest) and I think the best bit about it is that it means I get a great nights sleep every night. It knocks me out for about 9 hours so I always try to make sure I sleep for that long (go to bed early if you have to be up early) because waking up any earlier means some of the sedation hasnt worn off yet and it can be a struggle to get up and ready.

But I don't really feel any sedation during the day which is good.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…
