I am currently:
Schizoaffective Disorder

My GP told me today that my therapist (my GP was copied in on a letter my therapist wrote to my psych) who is also a psychiatrist, thinks I have a schizo affective disorder.

I've printed off MIND's booklet about schizoaffective disorder and read it through and it does make sense as to why she would think I have it.

From what I've read on the internet (can you believe what you read on the internet??) some sites say that prognosis can be good and others say it's a life long illness.

Does anyone know what the prognosis is for schizoaffective disorder and if it is a life long illness.

Do you hold down a job and have this illness?

I haven't worked for 17 years (I also have bpd) and I'd like to think I will get back to work at some stage.

I don't know if my psychiatrist will agree with my therapist's diagnosis. He can be quite dismissive.

I don't see him until June.

Seeing my GP again next week to discuss the letter my therapist wrote further.

Any help appreciated.

I have schizoaffective disorder and work part time. Some weeks I work full time hours. I get better year on year.
I feel my prognosis is good but it takes time to recover.
But recovery to me doesn't mean not having the illness it just means being able to manage it and live life.

Medication is a big thing for my illness I have you take them as prescribed and it took a long time to get a good combo that works for me.

I feel good on the meds I'm on now. So there has been a lot of progress for me personally x

I have a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder and I've had a part-time job for the past three years. I hope to increase my hours in the future. I won't say that life is without challenges, but I have a job/flat/friendships so it's not all doom and gloom. :)
