Would I get detained
If I were to confide in a MH worker that I wanted to harm myself and/or others?
In the UK.

It depends on the situation. It would always be a last resort though.
Would it help to talk more about what's going on.
If you're having thoughts like that I think it would be a really good idea to talk to someone about them. Do you think you'd be able to do that?

Stay alive, feed yourself well, wear comfortable clothes, and don't give up on yourself just yet.
It'll get better. Until then, have a day."

Probably not unless you said you were activly going to harm others or yourself. Even then they're likely to work with you on an out patient basis for as long as possible as they don't like admitting people unless they have to
If you go and be honest and want support with it then they'll work with you, not detain you.

do you like my potato?

As others have said, it depends on you and your situation. They'd factor in what you've said and consider it along with your mental state, home life, current level of risk and so on.
They really do like to treat people in the community, so sectioning you really would be the absolute last resort.
It's always better to tell your CMHT about thoughts like this so you can get help with them than bottling it all up and risk it getting worse.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…
you once called your brain a hard drive, well say hello to the virus.
