Special care dentist.

Has anyone been to a special care dentist? Any experiences to share?

I'm being referred as I need to be under general anaesthetic or heavy sedation in order to be examined, fillings etc by the dentist.

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.

I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.

I am currently:

hi, I don't know if it's the same thing, I got referred by my dentist to hospital. I had to have 11 teeth taken out and I was so stressed about it and worried about the pain, that was the reason for the referral. I was given an injection via a cannula (can't really remember the name of the drug, think it may have been metronidazole), I didn't know it had even been done, then 20 min later it was finished. I don't remember a thing about it, which is good.
I hope it goes okay for you.

And you think I'm crazy, yeah, you think I'm crazy

I went to the local 'community dentist' who deals with people with mental health problems, anxiety etc as well as children and people on benefits.

They encouraged me to use as little sedation as possible. I would definitely take someone who can explain your particular needs to them as they may know to be sensitive, but that might only extend to saying 'You can raise your hand if you need me to stop'.

They didn't seem to have that much specific training in people with particular needs.

I eventually got the leaflet in the post and they assured me I would have sedation for all my check ups and general anaesthesia for things like fillings or hygienist cleaning.

I have severe (and I mean really severe) tactile hypersensitivity due to autism, even someone putting their hand on my shoulder results in me knocking them to the ground and going into hysterics.
