Christmas/Plum Pudding

I was watching videos about plum pudding and had some questions. I'm not sure how popular these are since some people make them sound widely consumed and other people make it sound like these are a dying tradition

Concerning store bought items, I was wondering what the difference is between the "classic" and the "luxury" model version (both listed below). I was also wondering if something like clotted cream should be used with the pudding. Maybe something else is better. I watched a video on Youtube thar showed some other things

To be honest I don't know about the difference between the classic and the luxury I just imagine the ingredients are slightly posher!

We always have a Christmas pudding at ours and I think they are fairly popular but as they are heavy on raisins etc not everyone likes them!

When we make a pudding by hand rare our family puts a pound coin wrapped in foil in the pudding but alas store bought puddings don't have them

I have never heard of clotted cream being used per se the most traditional is brandy butter which was shown in the first video it's butter with lots of brandy and icing sugar mmmmm!

My mum makes Cointreau butter instead as she likes the orangey taste!

The first video didn't have anywhere near enough brandy in it! You need it to burn for a while haha!

Thanks - I was beginning to think the puddings were extinct lol.

I have to stop watching the bird's channel because I want to try 25 things now. Jelly Babies, Wispas, Cadbury Crunchies - I have a list lol.

Thanks - that's very comprehensive. Maybe its the tradition of cooking for oneself that is waning. I know that its often easier and cheaper to buy certain items these days (I don't like my own cooking anyway lol).

I don't think I've ever even seen puddings for sale (I've never been looking however) and I can't recall anyone here mentioning they had one (I'm sure someone must have though). During uni days I used to work for a local museum where there was daily period cooking. I might have seen pudding there. I recall a fav drink called syllabub (like a wine/lemon meringue bit) but never see it anymore. I want to order a "pud" but I'm always apprehensive I'll find something I like a wee too much lol

If you're like it at least with pudding you can always make it yourself!
