Lyrica

Hello.

I was just prescribed Lyrica for my anxiety. I'd been taking benzodiazepines (Clonazepam and Lorazepam, (not both at the same time)) for years along with my other medications for depression and schizo-affective disorder. My doctor doesn't want me to be on benzodiazepines anymore because of the recent studies that show long-term use of benzos can increase risk of Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia.

SO!

He switched me over to Lyrica. I am currently dealing with flashbacks and my PTSD has been especially bad lately, so I'm really hoping this helps with my anxiety. I also have Fibromayalgia and that's originally what I saw Lyrica used for on an ad on TV a few years ago.

The thing is, I have an intense fear of gaining weight ever since I was put on an anti-psychotic that made me gain weight when I was a teenager and caused me to develop an eating disorder, so my doctor tries to give me things that do not have that side effect. However, I've read on forums that people have gained weight from Lyrica...

So I was just wondering if anyone has been on Lyrica or knows anybody who's been on it and can tell me their experience, on all accounts - weight gain, reduced anxiety, reduced pain, and anything else.

Thanks!

I take it (also known as pregabalin) for anxiety. It's been weight neutral for me and I'd not heard of people gaining weight on it, but I suppose everyone is different.

It's worked brilliantly for my anxiety. I have also read studies that have shown lyrica is as effective as diazepam for anxiety, but is not addictive and is safe to take every day.

Thank you, both. I feel a little less worried about it now.

I've been taking it for over a year now and it's the best thing I've ever taken. Been on numerous dosages and one point it was at a mood stabiliser dose. It hasn't made me gain weight and like you since I've been on anti psychotic and gained lots I've been anxious on new medication. However this could be different to each person. I hope it helps you.

I've found pregablin brilliant

At first I got terrible side effects so reduced the dose. I now take it regularly but only when my mood is low.

I've been taking it for about three days now. I've noticed some dizziness upon standing, but hopefully once my body adjusts to it, that will go away.
