happiness feeling fragile. anyone relate?

I keep going through this annoying cycle of emotions and i'm not sure entirely what's fueling it, whether its something that everyone experiences, and if its just part of life...

Basically, when i've done something good, or had a laugh with a friend or a nice phone call, i feel happy. But it feels fragile, as if anything could come along and just ruin it. It feels like it's not sustainable and now, when i am happy, i have this sinking feeling as if to say, how long will this last? This usually occurs more often when im alone.

Can anyone relate?

I know there is no normal way of thinking or feeling as we're all different, but i duno. I got poorly around 15 and have been in and out of hospital/unwell for quite a lot of the last 10 years and now i don't know how im meant to feel. I'm probably not making sense or being too analytical.

It's a horrible feeling though, a sense of dread. Feeling happy feels nice, so why can't i just enjoy it and stop worrying about it being stolen from me?

i can relate to this. I think it might be a way that a lot of people would feel who have gone through what you have gone through. Neither happiness nor sadness is there constantly though and our feelings do fluctuate more than we think. Sadness also won't last forever.
Are there short term things that you can do to deal with sad times like watching a comedy, ringing up a friend, playing with a pet etc that will help you feel you have more control over how you feel than you think?

You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you wish to make.

I can empathise love.

Maybe you could write down how you feel when you feel happy and practice re-living the feelings so they become more natural to you.

Thank you, both of you.

I had an idea from reading your replies. I'm going to list things and people and memories that make me happy. So if I start to feel like im sinking inside, i'll for example, look at videos of jack russells online (i'm desperate to move out of supported housing and get my own little dog - Reggie) =]

That's a really good idea! Well though of!

I love the idea of looking at doggies online. I do that regularly :P All manner of cute animal videos cheer me up when I'm feeling down. I especially recommend the panda ones - they're really dim sometimes and fall over a lot, it's cute!
