Multiple personality disorder or DID

I have a friend who I am close with. He is 18 and has dissociative identity disorder or multiple personality disorder. He is very kind sweet and funny when he is Xavier but when he switches to rasheil who is a middle aged black man, he is mean and destructive toward himself and others. Rasheil doesn't know who I am when he is there. I want to help him and I want to keep him from hurting himself or even killing himself.

Has your friend seen a doctor about this to get that diagnosis? Is he getting any professional help? That would be the starting point really.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

Medicine doesn't 'cure' DID. But it can help with the depression, anxiety, and other symptoms that can sometimes go along with it. Hopefully he can get therapy if that's what he and his system wants. He can go along the integration route or choose to work cohesively as a system. Either way works and it's all ultimately up to him and his headmates.

I have DDNOS but have been told its actual more likely DID by my new T. Although I don't switch anymore like I used to I still dissociate some. Therapy has helped a lot for me. Wishing him and you the best.

medication won't fix or cure DID. He needs therapy to integrate and get to the root of the problem.

With a diagnosis, he should be able to get therapy on NHS: do you know if he is in the process of doing that?
