Increasing meds- unsure because doctor is unsure
I have been on Prozac around 3 weeks. When I saw my doctor about a week or so ago he said to increase my 20mg dose to 40 if it was still not working in two weeks. My only query is my doctor is so unsure of what to do with my treatment at the moment. He sent me to the community health psychiatrist who gave no answers- just said there was nothing else for eating disorders in my area and not for a long way. Through talking to friends all over Australia I have an appointment with a psychiatrist a friend recommended about 3hrs away.
Should I try the increased dose before I see the psychiatrist?
I'd feel better doing sooner rather than later if I do because I have a long way to drive to get there. Any experience or ideas anyone?

It's hard to say what to do. I don't think we can give you advice as it's the doctor that should really decide that.

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.
I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.

I agree with Oly. Try the new psychiatrist and see what they recommend, that's what I'd do.

As others have said, I would personally wait until I saw the new psychiatrist to see what they say, but I understand you are a little concerned about this. If you're going to transfer to the new psychiatrist, it would be easier if they took over your care.
Do you know when your appointment with the new psych will be? Would you be able to talk to your doctor about when you should increase your dose?

I think that's where I'm so confused- my doctor said increase next week if it's still not working but he is so confused about what to do. I guess waiting until the 19th to see the psychiatrist wouldn't be so bad. I don't think it's so much getting worse as the constancy of the situation just feels so awful. Maybe the thing to do is just sit tight and try focus on getting the means for seeing the psychiatrist sorted- I'm hoping centrelink/social services can give me a healthcare card to help with financing
