CBT for BPD

(please read, to end as there is a question)
I am diagnosed BPD and take medications.
I currently attend an outpatient 'talking' therapy group 3 hours a day, 5 days a week. sometimes this is very useful and other times it is not. The area i live in does not have DBT and since my country is small it is only offered in the bigger cities and i cannot access it, nor am i able to see a private DBT qualified therapist... as i dont have the money or even think thats an option.
So my community psych nurse whose my case manger has suggested the option of seeing a CBT therapist alongside the group i attend.
Partly the CBT option is to help with thought patterns that are strongly ingrained and the group is a sounding board to learn how to cope in everyday lie and situations. Also the therapist may be more help in regard to eating disorder stuff.

i have not got many options left :( and those ive tried so far have fallen short. i am 7 years diagnosed.... have had numerous hospital admissions.... both to general medical and pscyh. Ive presented at emergency department an awful lot too. last on the list for treatment is inpatient at a therapeutic community for at least a year. its a big commitment so you can understand my desire to find another solution.

So my question after all that is has anyone tried CBT for help with an ED and BPD?

In a nutshell yes. I am currently undergoing CBT and it is really helping! My diagnosis is bipolar with traits of BPD but that doesn't really matter as a lot of my current symptoms are very BPD like.

The CBT is good because it's helping me to think about what I am experiencing in a different way. I'm learning coping skills, and how to reframe my thoughts rather than automatically catastrophising etc.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

you once called your brain a hard drive, well say hello to the virus.

I am currently:

I am diagnosed with BPD and have done both DBT and CBT and found them both helpful. I think any therapy that helps with circular and ingrained thoughts (which CBT does) is helpful.

It's the ups and downs of living life this way. Promise me you'll never go away. Just stay with me through one more night because it's always darkest before the light and now I promise you I'll never turn away. I won't let you give us one less heart to break...

I have BPD and prefer CBT over DBT.
