Personally, I would take the medication. There's no shame in having depression and anxiety. If you had a broken leg you'd accept the cast, if you had diabetes you'd accept the insulin. So why debate over taking an antidepressant? Taking it doesn't mean you're not facing things or avoiding them. It would help you to pull yourself out of the dark hole you've fallen into.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

I've just heard that so many people have got worse & had more panic attacks on the medication and im terrified of that happening to me. I'm not ashamed, depression & anxiety is who I am. I just don't know how to cope with it :(

If you do get increased anxiety it will be very temporary. The antidepressants are what they say: anti - depressant. They reduce depression. Ok, they don't always work. If this one doesn't, your doctor can stop the medication (or increase the dose) and try another one.

If you don't take it, it definitely won't work. If you take it, logic dictates that there is a significantly higher probability of it being efficacious.

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.

I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.

I've had side effects from mediction but the great thing is that they are temporary in that you can stop taking the meds if needed.

I would say what have you go to lose by taking the tablets? As surely the chance of getting better is worth a shot? Have you been referred for any therapy?

Some side effects go away once your body gets used to them. I dont remember having any side effects when I was on sertraline (except when the chemist gave me a specific brand because it used to make me feel sick and dizzy. I got fed up of taking them because of that issue so I gave up taking them, I am now on fluoxetine).
