I wish I could have an animal to spend time with and take care of, but I don't think I would make a good enough caretaker. So I like to hear about people's pets instead.
What kind of pets do you have? What are they like? What do they do to cheer you up? What do you love about them?
Have you thought about volunteering for an animal charity? Many charities require animal cuddlers, which are people who spend their time fussing and handling the animals in their care. That makes them more people friendly and therefore easier to rehome. It also means that the animals spend less time being bored in their cages, which can be a big problem for some animals (only dogs tend to spend time out of their cages). It provides the ideal solution for people who for many reasons cannot have animals of their own.

That sounds like a dream job, I've never heard of it before. I'd love to spend my time hanging around different animals.
I have trouble with social anxiety, and lately trouble with leaving the house. I know I wouldn't be able to handle something like that.
It's ok though, I am trying to make myself accept the fact that I'm not capable of a lot of things right now, being around animals is one of them.
I have a cat, and have had him for about 3 months now. I'm toilet training him, so that eventually I won't have to clean out litter trays. He has lots of toys, so can self occupy whilst I'm at work. He does have a rather annoying habit of waking me up at 6 every morning.
In terms of my mental health, sitting and having a cuddle with him can calm me down slightly if I'm feeling anxious, and I have only self harmed once since I got him. He is very affectionate which I like as I live alone and can get lonely sometimes, but find human interaction difficult a lot of the time.
I was worried before I got my cat that I wouldn't be good enough to look after him, and still worry about it now, but he loves me, and people who come round all say that I look after him well, so that helps a bit with the worying.
Right now it would be cruel to have a dog so I am petless.

I have a dog! I find that when I'm feeling bad it can be such a good distraction to play with her, and even just cuddling her/talking her and something taking her for walks can help me
I used to have rats which I miss greatly. And I really want a dog but i'm not stable enough yet. I'd get a cat, I'm stable enough for a cat and I think it'd be god to have something in the house for cuddles besides my partner!

Sounds like a Total dream job!

Hey you may find you're better than you think. If you love the animal (and they generally make it impossible for you not to!) Than you will find yourself naturally doing everything they need you to do. It can also be great for you, to give you responsiblities and stuff. I think thats a good suggestion about looking into fostering too, then you can see how it goes.
I have one cat at the moment, hes actually just been sick but he's much better now after treatment. Hes amazing though, I love him so much!
I had a dog while I was growing up, then I had a pony and about a million fish, both goldfish and tropical fish. I would have a million pets now if I could, but yeah, care and finances need to be considered.
I know that feeling of wanting someone to take care of, I felt the same and its been amazing for me. They love you no matter what, and they won't tell anyone your secrets! Lol.
Oh and I meant to say, the guy I love has the most adorable English bulldog! I love him too! And he seems so much happier since he got him, so even celebrities sometimes need a pet friend!

I have a horse, a dog and two cats.
I also had two rats until last year (they are awesome pets).
All my pets make me smile no matter what I feel like, they are there for me and listen but don't argue back.
My horse has probably saved my life, I have to get up each morning and feed him and muck him out because he relies on me and in order to keep him, I have to work so I have to go out and talk to people and it keeps my mind off of things. Don't get me wrong, it is tiring as I have him, work and uni but its worth it :)
