Therapy.

Hi,

I was under NHS services for around 10 years (CAMHS and Eating Disorder Services.) I discharged myself from the ED service as just couldn't connect with the Psychologist and overall, found their service pretty useless. I was lucky that I found the most amazing private therapist and I saw her once a week and then twice a week. I had sessions for just over a year although she is now on maternity leave. She did refer me to someone but I didn't feel the connection so I started looking for a private therapist to see while she was on maternity leave. She is still on maternity leave and is due back around September time.

I've started seeing an interim therapist once a week although I don't know whether I should ask to be seen by a therapist on the NHS until my usual Psychologist returns. I would rather put my money aside for sessions with my usual therapist; we built up a strong, professional relationship and I started to talk about the PTSD and it took a good 7/8 months to build up that trust and I don't feel comfortable to talk about those things with the interim therapist. I need support around my depression, codeine use and eating disorder but feel the NHS could provide me with that if I ask them.

Any advice would be great.

K

I'm sorry I don't have many words but I think there is no harm in asking what the NHS could offer. Thinking of you x

I agree that there is no harm in trying the NHS but waiting lists for psychology are notoriously long that said you may get lucky.

However if you are under a mental health team you may get other forms of support that aren't psychological but still valuable.

Sounds like u have find the right therapist for u and I would continue with that support because it seems to be helping. Its unfortunate shes not around at the moment but I dont think spending ur money on a interm professional will be as good as the private therapist ur seeing.

When u mentioned about getting more support with other problems u have aswell as the Depression then I would get in touch with the NHS and ask them cuz its worth a try. In the mean time continue with progress ur making.

Im glad everything is going well for u at the moment.

Good Luck x
