so much confusion
Throughout ten years i have been diognosed with so many different things from Borderline personality dissorder, to anxiety to bi-polar type two to major depressive dissorder. and it feels like no one can give me an aswer for anything and i am so frustrated and confused. I go on medications then i go off of them i know that thats not healthy but sometimes i wonder whats the use of taking anything if no one truly knows whats wrong with me. i am just a little at a loss

How do you feel your symptoms are being managed?
It took me a while to get a diagnosis, in part because I never really committed to taking my medication or keeping follow up appointments. A couple of years ago I decided I had had enough of the merry go round and committed myself to managing my symptoms better. How my symptoms responded to various treatments lead to my diagnosis (bipolar II), prior to this there was 3 or 4 different things speculated about.
Moving forward also it has been beneficial for me to concentrate on how my illness is manifesting rather than the label attached my illness. How do you find the medication whilst you are on it?

If it helps at all all of those diagnoses you've been given share lots of symptoms between them. So it sounds like they recognise the difficulties you have, they just haven't agreed on what label to give it. It doesn't necessarily matter that you don't have a label as all medications treat certain symptoms any way. So if you are depressed you take an antidepressant, if you are prone to mood swings and mania you take a mood stabiliser or an antipsychotic and so on.
Do you see anyone currently for your mental health? Do you think you can ask for an assessment to see what might be going on for you?

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

The others have given really helpful replied, but I just wanted to add that it is possible to have more than one diagnosis. Anxiety and depression often go hand in hand, and people with a personality disorder typically have another diagnosis too (be that an eating disorder, depression or substance use problems).
However, the most important thing is addressing the symptoms which most affect your life. A name can be a useful way of understanding what's wrong, but it is not the most important thing.

I see several proffessionals throughout my community. Two are community workers which include a doctor and a social worker and the other two are through my college which include a psychologist and a chaplin. I understand that its not the diognosis thats important but mood stability and understanding of mood symptoms. ITs just so hard when one doctor says this andother doctor says that. I cant even go to the hospital for help because they dont agree with what my doctor says and then change up my medications. I dont go to A&E or in canada the ER. its just not possible and not logical i feel at times i am fighting a losing battle from the start

As a child I was diagnosed with hyperkinetic disorder and Tourette's. Both of which turned out to be rubbish when I was then diagnosed with autism.
Sometimes it takes time for diagnoses to be decided upon.
I think you should ask them directly to stop messing you about. That's what my parents did which got my (correct) diagnosis.

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.
I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.
